If your IKEA designer has done you right, they will have
sold you a 3' x 8' "OVEN PANEL". NOT A COVER PANEL.
The cover panels are not large enough to reach all the way
to the floor--they are only meant to cover to the toekick.
Also, the oven panel is 5/8" thick instead of the 1/2" thick
cover panels. It does not come with L brackets--you'll
need to pick those up at your local hardware store, along
with the appropriate screws (if not included) for your
floor/subfloor, walls (if applicable) and counter substrate.
You will need to cut the panel to size (in two
directions) and possibly shim it, as we have. We
installed heavy duty 3" L brackets: 2 on the top, 2 on the
bottom, in each case, one forward and one back, and there
will be 2 in the back, when we get done. It's very
solid--supporting a counter made of 2 sheets of 3/4"
plywood with soapstone tile on top. My husband
actually danced on it, just to prove a point. :)
There was good suggestion to install the cut edge toward
the top and leave the finished edge at the bottom so that
if there were ever any water seepage (mopping, dishwasher
leak, etc) it wouldn't get into the panel and cause
swelling. Good idea! (Wish I'd thought of it...)
Also, make sure that when you put in your brackets near
the front that you put them far enough back that they
aren't visible . We've installed flooring,
trim, and the soundproofing padding that came with the
dishwasher, so the brackets will never be visible. We also
added some decorative molding, base trim and Capita legs.
