Ok...tip out trays were not the easiest modification. Some say it
would hardly be worth it--me, I like gadgets. We bought the
Rev-A-Shelf Tip Out Tray set (14", double trays) from our local
big box hardware store for about $12. It is designed for use in a
framed sink base 30"-36" wide. We used ours in an IKEA
(FRAMELESS) 36" sink base. This modification should be done
before the sink is permanently installed, or you may not have
access. That being said, make sure that after you install
the trays, you will have room for your sink or you will be a very
unhappy camper, indeed.
Ingredients:
Rev-A-Shelf Tip Out Tray Set with Template and Instructions
Metal Bracket for Installing Faux Drawer Fronts
Frameless Sink Base
Chunk of Wood (1 3/4" wide (left to right), 2" deep (front to
back) and 4 3/4" long (top to bottom)
Wood Screws
Equipment:
Drill with Bits to Drill through Metal and Wood
Phillips Driver
Pencil
When you buy your sink base from IKEA, they will include the faux
drawer fronts and a metal hanging bracket to install them (since
the opening is 34 1/2" wide and the drawer fronts are 18" wide,
there would be no place to attach them in the middle without the
bracket.). Place the wood in the center of the bracket (be
precise) and drill through the metal, creating holes to attach the
block. Now drill into the wood, (again, be precise--the center of
the piece of wood needs to be in the center of the cabinet)
creating pilot holes for your screws. Attach the metal plate
BACKWARDS in the center of the top of the sink base (Photo #1).
The block of wood is attached to the bracket with the wood
screws. (Photo #2)
Following Rev-A-Shelf's templates and instructions, we attached
the hinges to the faux drawer fronts (Photo #3) and then to the
sides of the sink base and the sides of the block of wood (Photo
#4). After a little adjustment of the hinges (Photo #5), the
drawer fronts squared up nicely and the tip outs work like a
charm! We chose to use pulls on the faux drawer fronts (Photo #6)
because now, they have a purpose!
