This looks like a great space-saving idea:

Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks!

Well....I wonder where the plumbing fits, and what it looks like inside...and I don't think you'd be able to use a disposal unit of course.

Huh. This looks pretty cool. I don't know that I'd choose it if I had a choice, but we don't all always have all the choices we'd want. If you'd have asked me 4 years ago when we had 2 babies on bottles and no dishwasher, I'd have likely answered differently. Now I have a dishwasher and no babies.

Here's a pic of the insides:

Welcome to the forums, chappers! Are you working with a small kitchen, perchance?

Susan

I had that dishwasher mounted under a VERY shallow double sink, and so could have a disposal. It had about as much space as a portable dishwasher that you sit on top of the counter. It was better than nothing, but not much!

I am not sure how you would LOAD such a thing. I mean, I rinse my dishes, and then slip them into the dishwasher, one by one. With this you would have to rinse everything, prepare it, if you will. Then step aside, open the dishwasher and load it. Interesting idea...

gorgonzola -- Thanks for the hand on experience report -- and Welcome!

There was a double bowl sink that came out a few years ago by KitchenAid that had a small dishwasher in one bowl --VERY SPENDY. It was a toploader, and the top doubled as counterspace or maybe a cutting board, I don't remember. If I could justify the expense I'd consider it as a second dishwasher for the prep area, but it would cost at least 2 times what we spent in our breakfast room on EVERYTHING.

Sigh.

Susan

Thanks for the tips. It seems like the main drawback is the shallow sink. I'm going to try and squeeze in an 18" wide dishwasher instead.

Susan - yes, my kitchen is rather small and I have to work around a chimey breast, HVAC ducting (already moved) and 2 windows with sills only 26" off the ground. Pictures here:

chappers, your update is looking great! I like the stove 'nook" with the brick and especially the pendant light rail. I look forward to seeing the final touches added.

Would you mind sharing the specs on the light rail? (name/price range/etc) I'd like to do something similar over my island.

Thanks!

It looks great! I love the range and hood in front of the brick. And removing that wall in the passthrough was brilliant. How are you handling the window sill with the cabinets in front?

Thanks for the vote of confidence! It's gradually coming along. The lights (pendants and recessed) went in last night. Everything to the left of the oven still needs doing.

I have put some 24" high wall cupboards as base units under the windows:

I am going to install granite countertop on top of them and run it back into the window alcove to form a window sill.
