Attach an .fpf file

You can save the layout and 3D views of your kitchen from the planner, and attach or upload them!

Here's how to upload an .fpf file for others to work with:

If you use the IKEA Planner and want someone else to review or modify your plans, you can save your plan in the Planner to a file (in the .fpf format) on your hard drive, then attach it to a post here. Simply create a post, then scroll down to the "Manage Attachments" area, browse to your saved plan or drop in a URL, then upload.

About posting images from the planner

Because of a bug in the planner, at least the version I use, it's essential to change the extension from ".fpf" to ".bmp" in the File Name box. Just selecting BMP in the File Type dropdown doesn't work, the file gets saved as an FPF. Apparently the File Type dropdown doesn't matter, it's sufficient to change the end of the file name to ".bmp".

I've found the free image viewer IrfanView quite useful for resizing and converting BMP to JPG:
  • Open the .bmp file in IfanView.
  • Select the menu "Image" -> "Resize/Resample".
  • Enable "Apply sharpen after Resample" and "Preserve aspect ratio". Under "Size method", choose "Resample" and the slowest filter for best quality.
  • Clicking the "Half" button and then "OK" gives a size of 512x384, which I think is quote OK for this purpose. Custom sizes can also be selected.
  • Then select the "File" -> "Save as" menu.
  • Choose JPG in the "File type" dropdown. You might want to alter the "Save quality" in the popup menu.
  • Click "Save".
