The new gallery system introduced in January 2007 was designed to be a resource for members searching for inspiration and ideas as well as a repository for photos utilized in store directory entries, product entries and integral to articles, tutorials and FAQs.
Tantamount to our goal of making the photos easy to locate for someone who's looking for say...."Abstrakt Red" and "Stainless", certain bits of information must be collected on upload. It's quick and painless - akin to assigning "tags" to photos uploaded to Flickr or similar sites. But don't let that scare you! It really IS easy, and the benefits are great.
Once you are in the Galleries, you'll need to click on the Upload button. From there...
Choose a Category for your photo
IKEApedia - for Admin Upload Only, so no need to worry this one.
Inspiration - This is for photos of things that have impacted your plans, or great ideas you've seen that you want to share with others.
IDEA File - Upload photos of inspirational rooms, that communication center you'd love to have, the pet feeding center...
IKEA Spotting - Seen IKEA in a magazine or newspaper? With permission, post photos here!
Sources - photos of that perfect tile - make sure you list the source in the description!
Store Displays - photos taken in-store of room setups or other inspirational displays
Implementation - This is a place to post planning or in-progress items.
Plans - This is for sharing plans - either from an IKEA Planner, Google Sketchup, BH&G Home Planner, pencil on a napkin...whatever you use to convey your plans.
Assembly - photos of the guts and assembly process
Installation - during photos of installation
Projects - This is for finished projects and/or elements of projects. As the categories are self explanatory, that's all I'm going to say.
Other - Everything else - that about says it! Please feel free to Suggest A Category if you can't find a spot for what you want to upload!

[BREAK=Uploading the Photo]
Either use the Browse button to upload a photo from your own computer or copy and paste a URL for a photo which is already hosted on the web.
Give your photo a descriptive title - this is important. Try to think of it as if you were looking at it for the first time - what is the photo?
Give the photo a description - this is equally, if not MORE important. This is 90% of the keywords that will be searched when people go looking for photos. If you're uploading a photo of your kitchen, consider the following items to describe:
Cabinet doorstyle or line
Counter - material and/or color
Floor - material and/or color
Appliances - make and model plus finish
Backsplash - material and/or color
Walls - paint or wallpaper color
Handles/Pulls - model and finish
Sinks/Faucets - make and model
Other special touches - i.e. Capita legs, lighting choices, etc.
It's not REQUIRED to include all this information, but it will help others to find your photos and for them to be indexed properly. And, it only takes a few minutes!
After describing your photo, there will be a number of fields to complete about the photo. These vary from one category to another and are fairly self-explanatory, so I won't go into excrutiating detail. Make the selections as called for, and then click Upload.
You should be all set. If you get an error indicating a filesize that is too big, or the wrong MIME type, try resizing your photo and trying again - you can just go BACK and reattach the corrected photo as in step 1.
[BREAK=Editing an Entry]
If you review your photo or later find that you need to add something, you can browse to your photo, then click on Edit. The first option you get is to change the category - use the dropdown to select a different category, or just click continue to leave the photo in the same category but make changes to the other portions of the photo information.
The next part is the fun part - using your photos!
[BREAK=Posting your Photos]
Now that you have your photos uploaded, what to do with them? Well...you can just have them in the galleries and do a search on your own membername to view them, or....
You can use them in your forum posts and blog entries! If you've got the full WYSIWYG text editor enabled (i.e. you see the list of smilies to the right when you are making a post), you can click on My Pictures below and a small pop-up will well...pop up. In this, you can see all your own photos, by category and drop them into any post or your blog. Here's how:
With your cursor in the spot where you'd like to insert your photo, click on My Pictures (located below the smilies on the right of your text editor).
Within in the pop-up, locate the photo that you wish to insert. You can use the category dropdown to find only pictures within, say...Living Rooms or Modifications.
Click on the thumbnail in the popup, and the thumbnail will show up in your post or blog. Clicking on the thumbnail in your post/blog will take the viewer to the gallery entry, where they can get more information and/or a larger image.
It is also possible to insert photos that others have uploaded using the Album feature - see the next page.
[BREAK=Photo Albums]
While promising, this feature is still under construction and although it is functional it's clunky. It is a very convenient way to make a collection of inspiration photos, group all of your photos of your bathroom, or catalog photos of cool faucets.
Here's how:
First, create an album or three. Click on the Albums button in Gallery Navigation.
On the right you'll see a blue box with gold letters "Add Album" - click it.
Give it a title and description if you like - these are for your own purposes only, so whatever you want it to be is fine.
Click Submit.
Now, you have an album in which to put pictures. Here's how to add photos to your albums:
Browse to or search for the photo you would like to add. When you are on the page for that photo, you will see a blue Album It! box - click it
Choose an album to which you'd like to add the photo and then click on Continue.
Unfortunately, here you have to use the Back button repeatedly to get back to where you were - this will be smoothed out in future releases.
Those photos in your albums are now available to you when you use the popup - you can even use the categories and albums additively - choose a category, and then select photos in your album only from that category, or vice versa. It's very powerful! Additionally, when you come to the Galleries, you can click on Albums to get a listing of all your albums and view their contents.
You should be able to bring the image up (choose text link under the appropriate picture in your gallery: Your Gallery) and chose "Edit" from the "Toolkit" drop down menu at the top right just above the listing of pictures. Then you'll need to confirm what category the image is in (as there are different info fields required for different categories) and then you'll be taken to a screen where you can modify the description or any other values for the image/set.

Please let me know if you have any problems?

I do not have an edit option in the toolkit dropdown (my options are Gallery
home, upload, search, slideshow and albums).

Make sure that you have the photo you want to edit opened and the toolkit should show an Edit
Here's a screenshot that might help
I am not going to waste any more of your time with my little problem but I am still not getting the same drop down menu as the one shown in your picture. FYI I am going to retrace my steps, but since it was my first attempt at uploading pictures, I might have made a mistake.
To edit my pictures I went to my account, view your gallery, clicked on the name under a picture, click on toolkit but did not see an edit option in the drop down menu like the one in your picture (incidently, I do not have the "rate file" button either).
Thanks for your help anyway.
Hi Frederique - Sorry for your frustration. I'll take a look into the permissions. As they are set, you should be able to edit your own photos. If there is anything I can do to help in this particular situation, please let me know and I'll do what I can!
Hi catnomu! First off - if your images are in a set, you can't delete just one from a set. If they were individually uploaded, then you should be able to. Do you see a delete option in the Toolkit when you go to an image in the Galleries? I know there was something screwy in the permissions that was proving difficult to nail down, so if you can't find it - don't worry - it's not you!
If you don't see that option, then reply here, or PM me with the details of what you'd like to have deleted and I'll take care of it for you. Sorry for the trouble!
