Can I put Tot Locks on IKEA base cabinet drawers?

I've almost got all my doors and draw fronts on and now must think about childproofing.

I have all these base cabinets with drawers though. I haven't used Tot Locks before so no clue how to install them, but I understand they'll work on IKEA cabinets. But will they work on Ikea drawers?

Re: Can I put Tot Locks on IKEA base cabinet drawers?

aren't those tot-locks just the coolest things? so much better than those plastic ones that you have to depress....it's nice being able to turn off the locking function when you need to be constantly opening the doors.

haven't done it myself yet on our ikea cabs so can't really speak from experience, but it seems like you can put the catch on the side of the box for each drawer.

i'm almost thinking that putting the lock on a cabinet with double doors would be trickier....only solution i can come up with for that is putting the catch on the bottom of the cabinet box.

if you haven't installed these before just be very careful not to drill too far for the magnet pin that goes inside the door. i learned the hard way at our old place

Re: Can I put Tot Locks on IKEA base cabinet drawers?

I'm pretty sure it'd work with Ikea drawers, seeing how much more rudimentary Ikea's locks are and they work.

IKEA | Children's IKEA | Safety products | PATRULL

I have used some of the Ikea locks, not so much for kids, but for earthquake safety.

"they won't work on ikea cabinets"

um, news to me, i had them installed in my last kitchen, an ikea kitchen....
they're a bit tricky to install, but it's possible.

for the drawers you need to install them on the side of the cabinet.

for a second there Dulci i thought you were quoting one of us. had to go back and re-read what i wrote. i know i didn't say that they wouldn't work. and doesn't look like narf or Janne said it either. Does the manufacturer literature say that?

good to hear that you had no problems installing them.

my wife has been on my case to install them, but thankfully my little 2yr old is growing out of opening all the base cabinet doors ...and emptying ALL the contents no less ...however, lately he has been fascinated with opening and closing the drawers constantly....and i don't think that it is the drawer dampers that he finds so much fun....

ACK! Poor Dulci! Sorry to hear that... Have an extra glass!

Tot locks, they are great for more then child proofing they make wonderful invisible catches for hidden doors in woodworking projects etc.

Re: Can I put Tot Locks on IKEA base cabinet drawers?

Yikes falling TVs doesn't sound good. I hope you're feeling better Dulci.

I'm off to get some Tot Locks today then.

the only reason I know they'll work on the IKEA cabs is I found an old post on here love this site! I just wasn't sure how it'd go with the drawers - space wise and with the metal glides - and where to put it.

I was using those plastic things too but they don't work anymore. And now I have the absolutely fantastic 30" w drawer with the 30" beech cutlery insert, next to my DW no less, I have to lock it. I'll put some on the sink doors too.

Thank you all.
