Post LUFTIG HOO B01 S Venting to outside

Hi guys, I've finally done it and bought an Ulriksdal kitchen which is currently sitting in a neat pile in my garage.

I've built the fan cabinet and have 2 questions about ducting it to the outside. 1) Where can I get the ducting from, and more importantly, 2) some people on this forum mentioned the ductwork gets less efficient the further it carries the stale air. My kitchen is like many - the hob sits on an inside wall and if I run the hose along the wall, I hit a lintel so cannot get outside. As I see it, I'd have to run it along two walls to get to a wall-vent, which would be approx 3 metres of ductwork. Is this too far?

Thanks!

Re: LUFTIG HOO B01 S Venting to outside

Home improvement hardware stores will carry the ducting. 3m shouldn't be an issue.

Outside venting is much more important if your hob is gas; burning creates CO and CO2.

If it's electric, then it's moreso steam/oil fumes from cooking that's being vented ... and filters can at minimize a lot of that.

Re: LUFTIG HOO B01 S Venting to outside

Yes I do have a Gas hob. But I also have a seperate wall vent bringing fresh air into the room on the outer wall. So hopefully CO poisoning can be averted...

I'm more worried about the prospect of the extractor leaving a nice brown circle on the ceiling where the fumes are vented out of the fan cabinet having been filtered!!

I've been blogged!
Re: LUFTIG HOO B01 S Venting to outside

Can you go up through the roof, for a shorter run, or up the wall, and then over the lintel?

Whatever you do, be sure to use the recommended diameter for you duct work, and keep the length of the run and the number of turns to a minimum. Be sure to use rigid (metal) ducting, and not some soft, flexible material; DO NOT use white plastic ducting intended for a clothes dryer. And if you run the duct work through unheated space - an attic or garage for instance, be sure to insulate the ducting so moisture doesn't condense inside the ducting and create other issues.
