HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
We had the bases installed so we could get our countertops installed quickly.... now we went to install our drawers in our 36" cabs (3 of them--one with the cooktop) and we see in the directions you have to install them before the countertop gets installed!!! Have you run into this drawer problem?!! What do we do?!!!!!
Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
Good to know there's a solution. We stopped since our contractor will be back working here on the 29th.... he can figure it out... what did you end up doing?! How did you install the 2 18" ones?
Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
Did you install that middle piece that the drawer runners go on for the top drawers? If so, you shouldn't have any problem. If not, you might have to do a little Gumby imitation.
What kind of countertop did you get? With full-overlay frameless cabinets there's no place for an overhang, so you need to make sure your countertop doesn't intrude below the top surface of the cabinet.

No, we didn't install that middle support piece cause we didn't know about it That's the problem We're going to get some L brackets I think. We got quartz countertops (they look beautiful!) we know they drawers will fit cause they fit on the sink wall and oven wall where we already have drawers

Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
One option that you may consider is to swap the two top drawers for a shallow 36" drawer. Then you won't have to worry about the center piece. This is what they offer in Europe. For some reason, it is broken up into two 18" drawers for the U.S. market.
Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
I don't believe there is a 36" shallow drawer front available, but you might be able to join together the two 18" fronts or cut down a deep drawer front. There is a 30" shallow drawer front, from the bottom drawer of the tall double oven cabinet, but that's the widest one that I know of.
Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
That's what we're doing under our sink- cutting down (making it shorter, or shallower) a 36" since we're cutting down every drawer front anyway...Please note that you do have to order the 36" drawer fronts as sets of 4, so you will have two extra shallow 18" drawer fronts.
Re: HELP!! Installing drawers AFTER counter install!!!
You could always drill in from underneath to support the middle runner piece.
I'd do this if I were you.
1. Get some good glue - Gorilla is probably the best for this situation
2. Countersink some holes in the middle support piece - go deep enough so that a 2" wood or drywall screw will be able to go about 3/4s of the way into the upper part of the cabinet.
You don't want the screws to actually touch the countertop. It might crack it or do something that you'll regret. The combination of 4-5 screws and glue should hold that thing in place really well.
Technically this isn't a drawer problem... It's more of a cabinet assembly issue

Thanks guys. I think we got it. My husband got some L brackets and has been working on the 2 island 26" cabs for like 3 hours and is ready to kill it! But its almost done. They should have warned us to do that piece first!!!!!
