I showed him the specs for my oven (already paid for) and he says it won't fit in the 30" base (the drawing shows the width as 29 3/4 and he is saying the sides of the cab will take up more than that).
Is this true?
His solution was to NOT buy the base cab and he'll build a "shelf" out of plywood and use filler or a cover panel for the front.
I'm not very good spatially so I dont' really know what to say.
It's a little confusing but it seems the cutout might be only 28.5 (exactly as much room as you have inside the 30" cab)? The other figure may be the external width? Take this with a grain of salt as I'm rather feverish today...
I have NO idea if his plywood shelf idea is safe or good or anything. And I'd hate to have an installer who can't read specs...
Looking at the oven specs: it will fit into the 30" base cabinet.
I thought it would but kept saying that the diagram says it needs 29 3/4" wide (the "B" measurement) and that the 30 base cab will have less than that interior space once you account for the 2 sides.
The 29.75" dimension is the outside - the inside is the 28.5", which is what the interior width of the cabinet is.
I think I'm finally getting it....... by "outside" you mean the part of the oven that sticks out beyond the "front face" of the cab? I guess I thought it will be flush with the front face.
the drawing makes it look like the last few inches of the oven are wider than the part inside....but maybe it just means the front edge will stick over the front of the side walls?
I usually spend the time to check all the appliance specs before I plan/install a kitchen...this is required info in order to make the install proceed smoothly, so yes, it does raise a flag.
The oven 'trim' is outside the 'cut-out' opening...the oven sits proud of the cabinet sides.
