Re: thinking about DIY, am I nuts?

The oven panel is 30x40, dw is 24x24x30 right? So that doesn't make sense to me. Do I cut down the oven panel?

Yeah, ditto on that. If I'm hiring the finish work out, I want it to be to someone who only does finish work. There are many a gc who can do finish work, but a lot of them can't or have been on the job too long to really take the time to complete the finish work. I've done everything myself in our home except for the pieces that require intricate woodwork and should be focal points of the room when completed; those go to finish carpenters and it's worth every dollar.

The oven panel is likely for your dishwasher as you thought. We had one in our list of supplies for a stove at the end of a run, but didn't need it since our oven is free-standing and not a slide-in range. But we did talk to the Ikean about it, should we have decided to use it, and she said it would be best attached by L brackets to the floor and the wall behind, and then the appliance slips into the space. I imagine you would need something like that for a dishwasher--they don't usually have side panels. But maybe you have a freestanding dishwasher and don't need it?
