Re: Stuff You Need But Don't Think Of

LOL guys, when we bought the Pax 93" wardrobes to put into our guest room, I had the kids figure out whether we would have clearance to tip them upright. They're learning geometry and had to apply the Pythagorean theorem to find the answer. It was a great real-life application for them, and totally shut down the usual "Why do I even need to LEARN this stuff, I'll never use it again!" whining.

Re: Stuff You Need But Don't Think Of

The 2007 IKEA Wardrobes brochure says that you need a minimum ceiling height of 79 1/2" for the 79 1/8" units, and 93 1/4" for the 92 7/8". I'm merely reporting what it reports on page 32, so I defer to the math divas in Eva's house if they came up with a different answer. This assumes your ceilings are perfectly flat and level - in real life, few, if any, are.

Here's a question for those Perconti math divas - what's the minimum height for the shallow (14 5/8") units? Does that buy you an extra 1/8"?

Re: Stuff You Need But Don't Think Of

Yep...our ceilings are 96 1/8. The calculation came out to 95 inches I think.

Basically your triangle is from one top corner to the opposite bottom corner, with the diagonal being side C. so applying Pythy....

a(squared)+b(squared)=c(squared)

(92.875*92.875)+(14.625*14.625)=c(squared)
8625.765625+213.890625=c(squared)
8839.65625=c(squared)
square root of 8839.65625=94.019 or just a shade under 94 1/8 inches.

LOL - way more information than I needed. Where's LML when I need her?
