can't pull toe kick off

My installer didn't put that clear plastic molding on the bottom of the toe kick and I'm trying to "pop off" the toe kick so I can do it myself. How do you get a decent grip on the toe kick to pop it off the legs? There's nothing to get a grip on. One of the kick plates is custom cut larger than the norm since we raised the height of our breakfast bar. With great difficulty (and pain!) I can hook one finger around in an opening between the kick and the wall, but when I pull it feels like it's going to crack before it pops off.

Is there any alternative to using that plastic trim piece? I'd just leave it alone, but know it's going to get wet and probably start to rot if I mop right up to it.
Thanks!

Re: can't pull toe kick off

In theory, the toe-kick should pretty much just pull off, if your installer used the leg clips that come with the legs. These are "C" shaped rings that slide over and grip the legs enough to keep the t/k in place, but not so much as to keep you from removing them.

Because this is a "custom" t/k, the installer probably used sdome "custom" method to secure it - adhesive of some sort, or screws, or a combination. Your best bet is to call him and find out how he did it.

As for the plastic strip, I never use it. When it's in place, I think it looks really crappy and cheap. I think you're better off skipping it altogether. Just be careful with your mopping.
