I'm having an issue with the wine rack. It is 12 3/4 deep and the cabinet next to it is 12 1/4. My contractor suggests cutting the drywall and inserting it in 1/2 ".
Please advise.
Don't forget that there will be doors on the cabinet next to it which will bring it out a bit. Here's a pic of mine installed. Oh, and the 9" wine cabs don't go on the hanging rail, but right into the wall (just in case you weren't sure).
Re: 9 inch wine rack fit
I don't have a closeup, but I've never noticed an issue with it.
thanks for the response. The issue is if the wine rack "sticks out" the cabinet door next to it won't be able to open. Plus, when I was at the store, they didn't "stick out". They were flush. My confusion is the measurements are not what is listed. Your kitchen looks really great, by the way!!! Are you very pleased with it?
Another question - do the base cabs use 2 legs or 4? How about the tall oven tower?
I'll try to take a look at our wine rack when I get home. I think that the front of it ends up flush with the doors next to it, but I'm not sure. This doesn't prevent the doors from opening at all. I'll check it out when I get home since the hinge side of the cabinet next to mine is next to the wine cab.
Thanks for the compliment...we love the kitchen and have had it for a couple of years now.
As for the legs- you can either use 4 per cabinet, or you can "share" legs between adjacent cabinets. We found it easiest to do four per cabinet as then we could level them more easily.
As Kristen said, the depth of the 9" cubby is such that it is flush with the face of the cabinet doors once they are installed, so yes, it does stick out past the front edge of the carcass. But your contractor is wrong either way, because IKEA's euro hinges don't need any clearance side to side for the door to open. Handles, of course, may be a different issue.
In the photo below, the cubby is backed up to a 1/2" piece of plywood so it's sticking out beyond the cabinet door slightly less than 1/2". If it weren't for that the two would be almost exactly flush.

Thanks, splatgirl. I was pretty sure I would have noticed by now if mine were sticking out, but was pretty sure it was flush. I've got a standard installation at home (no plywood like yours), so I'll check it out just to verify.
I love my little 9" cab. It holds my cookbooks and my wine (though I know some here would die if they only had 9" to hold cookbooks!)
