Re: Island assembly

That's pretty cool but it's more ambitious than I was thinking about--especially since I don't have a truck to haul lumber. I'm using 24" base cabinets all around with legs on each corner of all 4. What do you guys think about gluing the backs together using some DAP adhesive and then using clamps at the top and at the legs to hold them together long enough to set?

I was also thinking about putting the whole thing on lockable casters so it can roll around where I need it (I live in a loft space with an open floor plan).

Re: Island assembly

If you're gonna put the thing on casters, you better do more than just glue the backs together - they'll pull apart if you torque the island too much.

I'd suggest you use some mending irons (flat metal straps) between the cabinets to hold them together. Six or 8 across the back rails, sides and bottoms should do the trick. And while you said you can't haul lumber, yo might want to get a 1x4 and use that along the bottom of the cabinets for extra strength and stability.
