Any brand of faucet can be used with those sinks. The problem is that they have a single hole and the vast majority of lavatory faucets are double holes, so it may be difficult to find the perfect faucet if you are relying only on what is on the shelves of your local big box home improvement store. That said, I found
this faucet at lowes after growing frustrated trying to install the apelskar, and i couldn't be happier.

Why so much negative press about the faucet? Surely they can't be that complicated.

The problem with ikea bathroom faucets is that their fittings do not work super-well with the valves most commonly found in American bathrooms. If you are doing a simple remodel of your bathroom and assume the faucet is basically plug and play, you are in for a world of hurt when you try to hook it up and realize that it is not going to happen.
Hope this helps!
