We are getting closer to finishing but naturally now is when we hit some problems. The Lansa handles are making us crazy. The first drawer handleis perfect. Then the next ones are crooked. My husband measured 100 times, and then had me do it, and the measurements are even. But the handles look crooked! So that is stopped until he can figure it out. My husband can do anything and has overcome all sorts of problems with this kitchen, and now the handles are stopping the progress!

Did you make a jig?

I made one like this:

take a board (I used a piece of laminate flooring) and measure the entire length of the handle (indicate this with dotted lines)

Measure to the center of each connector bolt and mark this on each side and make a dot. Drill this with the appropriate bit.

Measure the center line of the handle. This needs to be centered on each drawer/doorfront.

Then, attach something (I used a piece of Numerar finishing molding) to create a lip for the template to hang it on the top of a drawer or side of a door. This keeps it steady while you drill. Line the inside edge with painters tape to keep it from scratching the surface while you drill.

HTH

ETA: I wish my digital camera wasn't on the fritz...a picture is worth...well, however many words I used here!

What Lisa said! ::grin::

Jigs are a great way to ensure that all the handles are setup the same. Given the number of times you checked it though, I'd guess that that's probably not the problem.

Two things come to mind:
  1. The holes may not be completely square to the surface of the drawer front. This seems like the most likely cause if the holes are in the right place. Put a long shaft (like the drill bit used to drill the hole) in each of the holes and check to see it it's at 90 degrees both up and down and left to right. The standard mark one eyeballshould be plenty accurate to see it if it's not. If you find that one or both of the holes AREN'T square, then rechuck the drill bit and ream the hole out until it is! Hopefully that will fix the problem.
  2. The other possibility is a problem with that particular handle? Have you tried more than one handle on the drawer front in question?

Hopefuly that's of some help... If not, is there any chance you can post some pictures of the problem?

Re: HELP!!! with Lansa handles

I found a great little tool that helps with making holes at a perfect 90 degree angle. It is called a drill guide made by Wolfcraft. I found it at Ace Hardware (I got mine at my local store but they are also available online at Ace.com). It was $35.00 and worth it to us! It does make a perfect hole!

Re: HELP!!! with Lansa handles

Tigratrus is correct in that the most common problem is not drilling at 90 degrees - a possible fix with the LANSA handles is to loosen them off a little and force the handle into the correct position - there is a bit of play available.

Re: HELP!!! with Lansa handles

I know the feeling! We attached them and hammered them into alignment- some both left to right and up and down!
