Hi All,

I had a couple of questions about enclosing a dishwasher at the end of a peninsula. I have a 36" Sink Cabinet set perpendicular to the wall, next to this will be the 24" dishwasher. Im not sure what the best way to enclose this is. Ive looked at

http://www.ikeafans.com/FAQInstallationEndRunDW.htm

and im envisioning a cover panel along the back (exposed) side of the peninsula that will be cut to 36x(36+24+5/8) and closing off the dishwasher with the oven panel as described in the FAQ.

Im thinking a couple of L-Brackets to secure the oven panel to the floor and then a couple more to secure the oven panel to the long cover panel to form the back corner, but im not sure if this will be strong enough. Another option would be to frame out a small "support wall" out of 2x2's.

(Also I plan on installing Silestone and have a cement subfloor)

thanks!

You will need the 3x8' panel for the back of the sink cabinet and DW , then thecutoff for the side of the DW . Angle brackets are good between the back and side panel, also between the side panel and the floor.

Do you think the angle brackets between the oven panel/floor and oven panel/cover panel will be sufficient? I cant tell from the FAQ, but it looks like most of the end run dishwashers are against a wall and not and the end of a peninsula/island.

thanks,

We just installed a 30" sink cabinet and 24" Dishwasher with end panel in just the way you describe. Ours backed to a half wall so we were able to use that as support.

On the end, we purchased an Oven Cover Panel (to cut out a pieces to hide our holes once the double oven was installed) and cut out a piece for the dishwasher end cap from that. Since the piece was 30" wide we extended som of it forward (to line up with where the cabinet doors would align if there was a cabinet there) and the other end overlapped the end of our half wall. We put the finished side down so that any water or liquid on the ground would get absorbed into the wood piece.

Finally, we used L brackets to secure in 3 places:
1) At the top back - one end into the half wall and the other into the end piece with screws
2) At the bottom back - same as #1
3) At the bottom front - we used adhesive (liquid nails) to secure it to the floor and screws to the cover panel piece.

Our granite was just installed on Saturday and Sunday. The front top was reinforced with the "filler" piece that is glued to the granite. The dishwasher then is screwed into this. We didn't realize it at the time but ours got installed a bit slanted as they matched up the piece with the cabinet frame on one side and the outside edge of the filler piece on the other - unfortunately not realizing that the filler piece sticks out at the same elevation as the doors.

I'm happy to post pics too if that would help. My hubby is going to be installing the sink soon - maybe I'll have to have him pull out the dishwasher to snap some documentation first!

Hope that helps!
