I've been blogged!
Assemble & install kitchen cabinets

I am debating whether I should assemble and install my kitchen cabinets. I have plenty of experience putting Ikea furniture together (loft beds, dressers, coffee table, tv stands, etc.). For the most part I didn't find it too difficult (other than a few moments when assembly seems impossible). I'd really appreciate your shared wisdom.

~ Thanks ~

Re: Assemble & install kitchen cabinets

On the other hand, we are hiring a guy to help with things like plumbing, electrical and the installation of a new (larger) window.

Re: Assemble & install kitchen cabinets

We would mostly DIY again. We didn't do our own electrical, plumbing, or venting and we would skip those again. We might hire a tiler next time (there are a lot of flaws in the job we did), and depending on the style, we might hire a finish carpenter or counter fabricator. But design and assembly? Why pay someone else for that?

Here's a post I found very helpful on what you need to do it yourself:

Harpy - wish we had seen this post before doing our kitchen. It is really thorough and mirrors our experience. Thank you! One item I would add to the tool list is a Pozidrive bit or two. The screws really aren't Philips. They are a European screw and the Pozidrive bits fit them much better than a Philips bit. No slipping. We got ours online.
