Greetings:

I just purchased the double sized malm bed for my guest room. I am moving from the Northern Virginia area to Cary, NC on Thursday and have just read horror stories about putting this thing together. Is it really that difficult? Should I return it before I go, there is not an Ikea in NC? How long does it take? I am not an idiot by all means, but putting together furniture is not a talent of mine.

Any help is welcomed.

Hi. Sometimes the Ikea instructions are a little "light" on the details but you can do it!! If you get stuck, take a break, have a coffee and come back to it. Sometimes you need to look at their drawings from a different perspective. You'll be alright and then you can post a picture to let us know how it turned out!! Cyndi

carync -- I haven't put one of these together myself, but worst case scenario, you can post back here and hopfully get some help! I wouldn't worry excessively about it. IKEA has a somewhat bad reputation for their wordless instructions, but if you pay attention to the details in the drawings, you often find that they're ingenius.

I've had the MALM bed for almost 5 years now and have moved with it 5 times (which means I've assembled it 6 times!), and I've never thought it was especially difficult to put together. The first time I put it together it probably took about an hour; now that I'm familiar with the assembly I can do it in 30 minutes or less, depending on how tired I am!

I should note, though, that it would be very hard to assemble alone, simply because the individual parts are heavy and need to be supported until the various bolts are tightened at each end. Will you have someone in NC who can give you a hand? It's not hard labor/heavy lifting, it's just a little support here and there.
