I bought diginet curtain system stuff months ago and it is still uninstalled because i can't seem to cut the wire! i've tried wire cutters of various shapes and sizes. i took the wire to home depot and had them try to help me find something. they recommended a tool that cost more than the total cost t put curtains on four windows!
Sorry, you're talking about Dignitet, right? My daughter used this in her new bachelor apartment as a room divider. We ended up cutting it with bolt cutters, but it only cuts one or two strands at a time, so it almost 'chews' through it.
We found it difficult to get the wires snugged into the holders enough so that they wouldn't eventually come out because the allen keys are really small. Ultimately,
DS
changed the one set-screw that was really giving us problems for a regular screw and we were able to get it to stay put.
Of course, this might be because
DD
was using cotton sheets as a room divider, and they are heavier.

DS definition
DS can mean Dear Son, Dear Spouse or Dear Sister. You may need to ask for clarification, or read between the lines.
We ended up with a frayed end, but not that badly. Have you tried grabbing the frayed end with pliers and turning and turning to tighten it up a bit? If I remember correctly, that's what we did.
i got so frustrated i stashed them in my closet promising to get to them later. so on one window i have the hardware up, and the wire in one side and then the wire is just hanging there because i couldnt' get the end cut and jammed into the other end. i'll try the twisty it up method when i get home tonight.
If you wrap the wire TIGHTLY in electrical tape, or paint it with the liquid version, I'd imagine it would minimize the fraying tendancy and let you get a clean cut with a dremel. Might need to clamp it in a vise (or vice grips if you don'r have a bench vice).

How about a dremel with a cutoff disk in it?...cut, snip... Might need to clamp it in a vise (or vice grips if you don'r have a bench vice). James
James, I think you've got it. If the wire could be kept taught between two clamps, ie, a vise and a pair of vice grips, the Dremel would probably do the trick. The right-angle cutter would be helpful, but probably not necessary.

Edited for spelling...oops, it's not a 'vice'...well, I suppose it could be???
I have used a regular, large wire cutters on the cable with no problem. It does take a fair amount of force however so the tool has to be a sturdy one. Buy the biggest, highest quality you can find. If you don't want to invest this or in a cable cutter, do as others suggested and wrap the cable tightly in tape and then cut it with a hacksaw. I've successfully cut up to 1/4" or 3/8" steel cable with this method.

Slightly late reply, but I just bought some of this in the as is section, not knowing what it was. I got it for 99 cent's, enough parts to do two different curtain rods/whatever. I got home and emptied the bag out, and decided that it would make a nice shower curtain rod for the basement bath we are building.
Hadn't gotten around to installing it yet due to one reason or another, but then I stumbled across the product new in the package, and I can see there are improvements in the hardware since I purchased the as is parts. I decided to buy the new set too.
Problem is that the set screws do not hold the cable firmly enough for my taste, I wanted it tight, but it would pull out of the other end. So, I was thinking maybe if I tinned the end, similar to plumbing. I am going to try it later today.
BTW, the way I cut it was with some lineman's pliers with a cutter on the inside. Worked a charm. If that hadn't worked, I would have used the dremel. Even some good plain wire cutters would have worked with a bit more effort. It would have been difficult to get tape on this for the hacksaw method, because the wire is so small.
