Depends on who's working customer service. I've seen some customer service Ikeans rip open another item and extract the pertinent part and others insist on exchanging the whole package. But chances are the Ikean will want you to exchange the whole cabinet -- that's not the kind of piece that would be laying around in a spare parts bin, after all. Bring the whole cabinet (and your receipt, if you've still got it) and explain the problem -- as long as they've got that cabinet in stock, it shouln't be a problem for you to exchange the cabinet.
Oh, and most of them will want to do a straight return, then make you go back to the kitchen dept., place an order, and come back to the pickup area. But, if you ask nicely and explain what a hassle that is and you're really in a hurry, they do have the ability to place the order for the replacement cabinet right there in customer service, to save you from having to traipse throughout the store and wait in line in the kitchens dept.
Incidentally, if you haven't already looked over your other cabinets, it wouldn't hurt to do a quick visual inspection -- no point making multiple trips to Ikea customer service if you wind up having something else damaged/defective. |
