i just bought a used full malm bedframe, apparently the older style. i found a picture instruction on this forum ( http://justpixels.net/stuff/malmbed/). notice how the headboard attaches differently to the side rails than it does on the new malm (currently posted as the instructions on the homepage). the person that sold me the bed apparently lost the allen screw to the older style malm.
i even went to ikea and they gave me all the pieces for the new malm, but it doesn't fit! i also tried other ikea screws! does anyone have the old model full malm instructions (there'd be a parts number next to the unique headboard screw i'm missing). ikea no longer stores it in there computer, so they have no idea what screw im looking for. or does anyone know what kind of screw i should buy? i doubt they carry them at a normal hardware store - ikea always uses really strange/special screws.
i'm hopeless! and i'll be sleeping on the floor near my disassembled bed until someone shines some light my way. please help!! soooon!!!
I have the exact same problem. Just registered to post it but found this thread. Please help. I'm missing the Metal Cylinder piece, and the screw that connects the headboard to the side beams.
Re: old MALM has different headboard screws?! help!!
Am also missing the metal cylinder piece (barrel nut/cam lock) from the old-style malm. did anyone find out the part number? went out to ikea with no luck.

Re: old MALM has different headboard screws?! help!!
The barrel nut you're looking for is going to be something like #104895, which is used in Hopen beds. You might also try #108903 or 100514, from the Hemnes line.
If you're looking for the threaded screws, try #105236 or 106569.
Take one your Malm screws with you to be sure - the threads are standard, but you never know. The only issue you might have with the barrel nuts is the diameter - you might be well served to take a couple of different sizes, just to be sure. Don't worry if the nuts are too short - they will still work; but too long
might be a problem.
Good luck.

Re: old MALM has different headboard screws?! help!!
I too have the same problem- I bought an old Malm bed on craigslist and they had hardly any screws so I don't even know what I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me/ post photo of all the screws needed to attach headboard and footboard to the side panels. I think I have all the other bits.
Thanks heaps
And if anyone needs a whole set of malm screws for new bad i have them so let me know and I can send!!!
cheers
Re: old MALM has different headboard screws?! help!!
Hi, Thanks for the reply- the problem with those types of screw fittings is that the old Malm appears to require a large semi circular piece that fits in a big hole that is on the side pieces. The Hemnes and Hopen beds only have small holes. And so I dont think those pieces will hold in there....The thread of the major holding screws on this Malm are large diameter and so big holes! Maybe I should just polyfill/chisel out the holes and try and use the new malm fittings I have- they seem to be generally the same shape jsut different sizes! I would just buy another bed (as it seem sit would be a lot easier) but I don't have a car and so would have to fork out lots for delivery again!!
thanks for any help!
Re: old MALM has different headboard screws?! help!!
Does anyone know when the fastening method changed on the Malm bed? Do you have the old assembly instructions and/or the dimensions of the dowels, bolts, and semi-circle piece?
