Just finished putting together the box for my 30" 4-drawer Adel base cab., then installed the glides and drawers. When I open and shut the drawers, however, all but one drawer box scrape slightly against the screw heads which hold in the drawer glides on each side. It's taking off the enamel paint and now that a groove is worn (!) it fits a little better, but there's still the metal scraping sound and we are clueless as to how to adjust it.

Any ideas? The screws are in as far as they will go, I put the box together just as every other I've assembled - not too tight that I can see. The drawers are all together as they should be...is there a way to fix this or is it normal? I assumed the drawers would open and close without much sound at all.

Thanks for any and all input!

Can't say what's wrong specifically, but it's definitely not right... Do you have another of the same cabinet? If so I'd check the exact measurement from inside edge to inside edge and see if the scraping one isn't off for some reason. I'd say you had a good case for swapping the cab out with IKEA, if it's not impractical time/effort wise...

Welcome to the forums! Have you checked the cabinet box for square? Unless you have a very accurate square to check your 90 degree corners, the best way tofind outis to cross check your diagonals. Measure the distance (you can just mark a string if it's easier) between the top right and the bottom left corner -- it should be the same as the distance between the top left and bottom right corner. If not, you're out of square. This could cause the kind of problem you describe.

If you find that this is indeed the problem, you'll need to rack the thing back into square and it will probably involve taking the back off of the unit. Oy! What a pain! Get a tiny, tiny cats' paw or a small vise gripsto pull all those tiny, tiny nails and then carefully adjust the box until the corners are all square. When you put the back back on, flip the orientation so that your nail holes will be in different positions. Otherwise, they'll try to go back into their previous holes and you'll be right back where you started. Good luck!

Thanks, guys. This morning I'm feeling a little less tired and not so discouraged

Will check for square again - maybe when I put in the horizontal support bracket and the block that separates the top 15" drawers things got out of square??

I guess if the back must be removed, it must be removed! But not looking forward to it.

Will give things a shot today and let you know how it goes - thanks so much for the (quick) replies.

Oh i had a problem like this once on ONE set of slides/drawers and I don't remember the problem but there DEFINITELY was a problem. The drawers should indeed open and close with nary a sound - certainly no scraping.

Can you check to see if you have installed the drawer glides correctly? I think it may be that I installed the left hand drawer glides on the right hand side or vv. Please check your installation against the instructions - such as they are - down to the finest minutiae in the drawings for any inconsistency. Certainly please check to see if you've installed the left hand and right hand glides properly on the left and right hand walls. I think that may have been my problem...

I had the exact same problem; good news is that it's an easy fix. You've used the wrong screws to attach the drawer slides to the cabinet bases.

The screw that you should have used looks similar to this:

The one that you used is for attaching the metal widget to the wooden drawer fronts

How I love the internet.

Jamie, I think you might be right. Why didn't I check the tiny little numbers next to the screws??

Many, Many, Many thanks to you - off to disassemble drawers and glides for the 3rd time (but much happier about it)

love your site, GofD ~ I'll very soon have a completed kitchen to display
