First off, let me apologize, I know every question I ask is so incredibly minute. I go crazy about the details, what can I say.

I know the typical height from top of counter to bottom of cabinets is 18". For those of you that used the decor strip as well, did you adjust the height of the cabinets so that the bottom of the decor strip/light rail was 18"? Or did you let the decor strip decrease this distancea bit?

We will be watching the installation video tomorrow morning, so maybe it will be answere there. Otherwise, thanks!

Hi,

If I might make a suggestion, find out if 18 inches is high enough from the countertop for you to work comfortably without banging your head on the uppers. Personally for me, higher is better:

-Drawers in the base cabs = more ergonomic storage. You reach down for heavy things like plates and avoid straining the neck and shoulders reaching up.

-Upper cabs=moderate use storage space for glassware, some food, cleaning products, things that are infrequently used, etc. Consider this : in most cases, the only way you would be able to reach the upper shelves would be if the cabinet were resting directly on the countertop or with a step ladder.

-Counters = MUST be easy to work on and clutter free. Consider how you will use the area : baking, storing and using small appliances, etc.

HINT : Use masking tape and some boxes to set up a 3D model of your counter/cab height configuration.

Hope it helps.
