Ack! Someone save me. What am I doing wrong. Trying to assemble the rationell lazy susan
Grrr. WTH am I doing wrong I'm finally getting around to clearning out our corner cabinet and installing the rationell lazy susan. I got it together and it looked beautiful and spun beautifully until I started to load the shelves up and they fell apart :shocklease help!
Rationell definition
Rationell is a line of kitchen products that enhance the basic AKURUM/FAKTUM lines, including the Blum-made drawer boxes.
I'm on my second one - once I put some stuff (not terribly heavy) on the first one, the top tier started to sag badly on one side. I took it apart and noticed one of the little black tabs inside the middle plastic part had broken off.
I never did get the middles correctly seated on that one, I don't think - there was a gap between the bottom surface of its flange and the top surface of the lazy susan deck. I looked at the ones on display and there was no such gap. The instructions indicate you're supposed to push on that until it clicks, but now assembling the new one, I've gone so far as to hold the susan in both hands and push with my foot, and there is no click. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong, but I don't think the tiers are going to be stable until I fix this.
Looks like someone moved you already...wish I could help with this one, but I am no lazy Susan, nor do I own one. Hopefully someone who's done this will come along!
Susan

It's moved... And a redirect left in the old loaction.
Unfortunately We don't have one of these... I think Susan takes personal exception to the name or something . So I have no idea what kind of advice to give... All I know is that *when* we get to the point of redoing the main kitchen, we've already decided that we're using the Lee Valley unit here. kmcg installed one and it's a work of art for a very reasonable price.
Hopefully someone with some experience in installing the IKEA *ahem* less than highly motivated *ahem* susan can chime in with some hints on installation.
James
/edit Heh. She answered AFTER I moved but before I finished my post... That's a less than lazy susan for you!

Reason: post post update :)
Thanks, guys. I think I have it figured out now. A big tsk-tsk to IKEA - the parts just do NOT fit the way they should.
What I had to do was compress the black middle against the metal deck circle, then reach underneath with a regular screwdriver, insert it inside each of the four prongs, and twist to force the prongs outward and over the lip of the metal deck circle. I thought I would break the prongs, but was lucky in this instance. It would help to have four hands.
Heh. I certainly understand the desire for extra hands... Unfortunately *most* of the times I've needed 4 hands it's been physically impossible to get another set into whatever space I was working in, even if I were Shiva with 8 arms .
I wonder if we should try to get ahold of a *not so active* susan next time we see one in the AS-IS room just to do a tutorial on how to get it in place? As your's is in place already I'm guessing that pictures might not be useful for explaining how to do the install?
Anyway, congrats on getting it in!
James

I wish I'd thought of that. It would actually be pretty easy to take it out and demonstrate where to insert the screwdriver, though; I'd hate for you to buy an unneeded accessory just to take pictures of it. I'll put it on my to-do list.
Let's just call it a carousel, shall we? Nicollet - I don't want you to have to take it back out again on our account. Although I admit my motivation here is purely selfish - I don't want you to curse us if it falls apart when you take it out!
They do show up in As-Is fairly frequently, although I'm not sure why....impossible to install, perhaps?

I did finally figure it out BTW. I had assembled it just fine, but the stupid pieces don't 'lock' like they are supposed to. I actually went down and got a NEW set (because mine was damaged because I put it together, loaded it up, and then it crashed and fell apart). Anyways. The new set I put together the first set and it 'popped'. You could feel the 2 black dealies clicking into place. I realized that the first one I had put together I had never heard a clear 'click' even though it LOOKED and FELT 'locked' on properly. So then I put together the 2nd from the new set and it, for the life of me, would NOT 'click'. I took it apart and put it together 10 times before I finally decided to MANUALLY 'click' it into place. There are 4 little holes on the top of 'black thingy' where you can see the 'stick thingies' that are supposed to move outward and 'click'. I manually w/my screwdriver nudged each one out until it clicked.
Installing the actual tube/racks was a piece of cake. It was just the lack of 'clicking' I suppose that had been the problem (and the idiotgram didn't even show the stick figure man insuring proper 'click' of this piece, so I never considered that it could be a problem until my 2nd set rack 1 'clicked').
