Cutting Framsta Glass Panels?

I've built a Besta entertainment center and I used the Framsta system with grey glass panels. In the instructions it kinda shows how to cut them so that you can run cords to the tv through them. Just wondering If anyone has cut them before and what kind of saw they used. It seems like they would just crack? I hope this made since but I am reluctant to just "try it" as the closest Ikea is about an 1 and a half away if I break one Thanks!

Re: Cutting Framsta Glass Panels?

I don't think you are supposed to cut the glass panels, after all they are made of tempered glass, which cannot be cut anyway. Apparently the openings for the cords can only be cut on the non-glass panels, unfortunately.

Re: Cutting Framsta Glass Panels?

I tried with 2 panels and failed. I don't think this is possible...

It sucks because in the catalog you can see a flatscreen tv mounted on these glass panels and there aren't any wires or cables anywhere. This is not possible, except when you switch the center panel for a wooden one, and cut into that...

Welcome to IKEAFANS, maksimclaes.

wd is a wise man - tempered glass can't be cut. Period.

Re: Cutting Framsta Glass Panels?

they make two kinds of glass panels. One with out cutouts and ones with oval cutouts in the center. They come in packs of two. It worked well for me and was able to get all my cables to the TV that I needed.

the link below if from the Ikea website and the part is called "framsta panel filling with cord outlet grey glass".

Welcome to IKEAFANS, js.

Just to clarify, regardless of which Framsta glass panel you use, it can't be cut the way untempered glass can be.

Re: Cutting Framsta Glass Panels?

Quite so. There is a picture in the instructions of how to cut a "V" shape to allow cables to pass, but this is a wooden panel, not a glass one.
