Hi all,Well we hired a contractor and we will start our project after the new year. I will probably order my stat yellow cabinets next weekend (I think the New Haven store said 3-4 weeks) and I will put them together.
A couple of questions have occured to me...
1. I have a peninsula that seperates my kitchen from the dining area. I plan on a 36" base unit with 4 drawers and a 15" base pullout. Since these units will be free- standing (not attached to a wall) is there anything special I should do? I assume they will be bolted to each other and the counter on top should keep them stable. I will have toe kicks to hide the legs but on the back side of the cabinets (that will face the dining area) I was planning on the cover panel (also will need a cover panel for the side of the 15" pullout) Will the cover panel be sufficient for the backside? I think it could go right to the floor...I don't think I would need toe kicks too??
2. I want to put my tall kitchen garbage can in the 15" base pullout. Can I just order that unit without any shelves or do I need to order a Rev a shelf or something to accomplish this?
3. I am a bit confused on how the ordering process will go. I know everything is seperate. If I want the 88" tall deep 15" wide pantry with pullout shelves, do I order the HD1588 and then order the pullout shelves seperate? Does each piece of hardware and door, cabinet box, legs , shelves etc. have to be ordered for each cabinet, even the ones that are in the catalog just the way I want them?
4. How much extra would you order for the crown molding?
I am a bit nervous about the ordering...want to make sure that I know exactly what I need...don't want to entrust it entirely to the Ikea employee taking the order.
Also Blackie and someone else on this board was installing the Stat yellow...wondered if they are happy and have pics yet!
For your peninsula, have you thought about adding wall cabinets (used as base) so you have a second side with shallow shelves? They would go back to back with the base cabs you have planned. That adds only 12" depth and is pretty handy.
I was told that you order the cabinet by code from the catalog, but then they break out all the component parts for each cabinet for the actual order sheet. You can specify that you want a cabinet without the stuff that comes with - for example without shelves, or difference drawer configurations.
I read that Stat yellow will be discontinued next year, so don't wait too long to order. It's really pretty!
When we went to the Atlanta store Saturday I asked that same question. We're going to have a penninsula between the kitchen and dining room and wanted to know how to cover the back and side with the Duvbo style. Thekitchen designer Jan(who is actually from Sweden) told us we would buy the a panel in the Duvbo style that would be 9' by 3'. THe 3' height should cover from the floor to the counter top. If you have to cut the panel for length you would cut the end that butts into the wall. He said they also have a smaller panel that would cover the side. Hope this helps.
There is a tall cabinet cover panel which is 2 feet by 8 feet (or so). There is also an OVEN panel which is 3 feet by 8 feet. The OVEN cover panel is what you need to cover the back of a peninsula, not the tall cabinet cover panel. Be aware that the grain will go vertically on the panel so if you turn it 90 degrees to use it horizontally the grain will go horizontal also.
There is also a shelving unit that they introduced this year that might work to finish off the long side of a peninsula. I don't remember the name, but it's featured in the picture of the cool new blue high gloss kitchen.
It's Nyholm. It's pretty modern looking, but I likes it.
