I followed the instructions and installed the legs on the adjoining side of the cabinet so that they overlap underneath the next one. This seems to actually make it more difficult to line the two cabs up vertically.

Does it make more sense to just let each cabinet stand on its own four legs?

Thanks

You can certainly do it that way. You can also use a ledger board along the wall and only use legs (shared or not) on the front. Many people feel this gives them a better shot at getting level. We used 4 legs AND the ledger board, but Tigger's into over-engineering, so it was to be expected.

Have you watched the installation DVD? It's on the Fansite side on the Instructions page -- linked at the top. Might be helpful if you haven't watched it.

Thanks Susan. You're quick! We watched the video earlier and I've been looking at a lot of postings and pictures too. I think we are going to use 4 legs on each cabinet instead of the overlap.

I guess I should contribute to the forum now instead of just taking. ) I think I need a bit more experience though! Have a nice night! --Janis

No problem, Janis! We'll be really happy just with pictures from any stage at all...you don't have to wait until you're done -- start a blog if you wish. You can keep track of your progress, AND show it off to family and friends all around the world.

Have fun!

Re: Base Cabinet Legs

So, um, when you say "ledger board," what exactly do you mean? We're going to install the base cabs this week, and I'm confused by the instructions that show only installing 3 legs on a cabinet, not four. And then you (and another poster re: legs) mention ledger board and only doing two legs in front. Can you explain for the small-brained?

Ok -- ignore the ledger board question -- I finally eyeballed the cool posters (which I did not receive at Ikea -- thank goodness for this website!), and I see the whole ledger board idea. I emailed these posters to my builder over the weekend and never took the time to look at them myself... I guess I've got homework!
