Just picked up two Summera keyboard trays for my two Mikael desks, drilled the 3/16" holes and pounded in the plastic anchors.

When one of the anchors fell out from its own weight, I knew I was in trouble.

When I started mounting the tray, two of the screws seemed to take a good bite into their anchors and looked promising, while two of the anchors simply broke away and spun in place.

I think that the material that the Mikael desks are made of is just too weak to support this keyboard tray.

Has anybody made these work?

Is glue the answer?

Glue is not the answer. The Mikael desktop is apparently made of cardboard.

I put a glass top on both desks because I knew they were somewhat fragile, but even so, this is an unpleasant surprise.

Hi RBob,

I've gotten it to work. Here's how.

Rather than using the plastic anchors, use toggle bolts. I bought mine from Lowe's. The brand is Cobra. They're 1/8" screws that are 2" in length.

The Mikael desk is barely over 1" in height, so I also had to use about an inch worth of washers on each screw, but it has held for a month now and looks to be holding strong. I think this would work on any honeycomb desk from Ikea.

Cobra at Lowe's: Spring Toggle Bolt (not necessarily this model, so just look for 1/8" x 2")

Spread this answer around. I haven't seen anyone else recommend it, and I think it's a good solution.

Thanks for the info on using those toggle bolts. Do you happen to have any pictures of the final result? Or maybe onhow you put them in?
The link you posted just goes to the main Lowe's page, not to any product page. I think I understand how you put them in but screen shots would be a better visual aid.

I didn't take any photos while I was installing the keyboard drawer, but here's a photo of a toggle bolt, and photos of the final product. You can see how thin the desk is, and how many washers it took. But it works great!
