Wow...my cabinets will be here 12/27! I am having them installed by my contractor but I will be assembling them. I forgot to ask at Ikea what tools I will need. I think they sell a small toolkit...is this for assembling the cabinets? I've read alot of great hints here (have hubby working on an Excel speadsheet with #s in order for delivery day. You've all convinced me I can do this...I may be asking you for help...any suggestions are welcome!

You need a screwdriver with a #2 PH, and a hammer.

That's it. Maybe an awl if you have CAPITA legs.

For simple assembly, Lisa's got it. I'd add a few things like a square to be sure that the cabinet isn't racked one way or the other before putting on the back. It's really not that difficult -- the first one will take a while...think 20-30 minutes. After that, you fly through them. The longest part is hammering all those tiny nails into the back.

There's a FAQ on the Fansite with a few lists covering assembly, modification and installation tools. You might take a look. Good luck and remember to take pictures!

Susan

If you don't have a square you can also just measure the distance between opposite corners before you nail the back on the cabinet, they should be the same. If they aren't, justrack the cabinet carcass until they match. Basically that's it. Now if you get into modifications/DIY disease...

One of the biggest potential timesavers (IMHO) is to buy/beg/borrow/steal a nail gunfor putting the backs on the cabinet boxes instead of using a hammer for all those tiny little nails. I used my 18 ga. brad nailer and itwas a LOT faster compared to the one box I did witha hammer.
