I was putting together my pull out pantry, and when I took the doorfront out of the package, I noticed that it has the big holes drilled in it for hinges. Does anyone know if they make a different pantry doorfront just for the pull out type? Or do they use the same door for both the hinged pantry and the pull out? I'm guessing it's probably the same, but I'm concerned about being able to see the hinge holes when the pantry is pulled out.

Thanks,
Brian

brianc -- Welcome to the forums!

You've got the right door. One of the ways IKEA saves money (and passes it on to you) is to limit the number of styles/doors/fittings. The door is the same, but in some of the pantries (the pull-out base cabinet pantries) they give you plugs to put in since you've got to attach the bottom drawer/pull-out assembly to the door in that location. I think the high cabinets/tall pantries don't come with it. Don't worry, though...it's not a big deal. You can pick up similar plugs at specialty woodworking stores (like Rockler or Woodcraft) for pretty cheap, and you just bang them in.

Purely out of curiousity, what door style did you choose?

Hi,

Thanks for the info. The door style I bought is the Adel med brown. I do have the tall pantry, so I didn't get any plugs. I'll look for the plugs you recommended.

Does anyone know whether the tall pullout pantry actually requires 3 hinges, which is what my sheet from Ikea says? I can see that I would need 2 hinges for the 24" tall upper door, but where does the other one go? Thanks for any replies, as I try to figure out what I need to return or pick up when I go to collect the frames for my tall pantries (for which I've waited 5 weeks!)

I could be wrong, but I think you use the 3 hinges if you have the tall bottom door, and 2 additional hinges for the small upper door on a pantry that has two hinged doors. I think.

If it's a pull-out pantry (as you indicate), then you wouldn't be using any hinges on the bottom door, and 2 on the small upper door. Is it possible that you've got your hinge packs mixed up? Maybe the 3 hinges go to another pantry? If not, then I would guess that your IKEA kitchen associate made an error in your order. Do you have your draft order to check?

Actually, my order didn't have any of the 3-pack hinges, but the multi-pageguide they give you to help organize all the cabinet parts says that the pullout requires a 3-pack. Logically,a pullout door shouldn't require hinges. So logically, the order is right and the guide is wrong. I'llfind out soon enough,I guess Funny how it's easier to ask this kind of question on this forum than it is to ask an Ikean!

I’m reading this thread with great interest as I’m also at the point of installing our tall pantry doors (Adel med brown) and can’t quite figure out where I have to drill the holes to attach the “permanent” drawers. The pictograms really are confusing and I’d really like to have more of a written step-by-step process to follow. I’d really hate to drill a hole in the wrong place.:?

Has anyone completed this part of their installation and is willing to talk a plebe through it? Thanks!!

You should have a template that will give you an exact guide for drilling your holes. As I recall, it's not in an intuitive location (and some people have actually reported not having them)....I think it's in with the drawers for the pull-out? Can someone who's put one of these together confirm? It's come up before. Don't drill your holes without it! Worst case scenario, we'll try to scare one up, scan it and have it available for download. Can you wait?

Yes, it's in the little book that comes with the drawer kit, I think. It's a cardboard template. I don't think it is packed with the door.

I did find the templates. Just as you suggested,it was located with the pull out drawers. Also, I took in some sustenance and afterward was able to figure out the process for attaching the permanent drawers. The pictogram is accurate once I figuredout that the Adel doors fall under the classification of “other doors.” A little food does wonders for the mind. Thanks.
