My question of the day.

Looks like the longest IKEA countertops are 96". If I need to have a countertop that is 102" long, how easy is it to cut a smallpiece and connect both with a seam? I have seen a metal connector/transition piece when countertop turns a 90 degree angle. I guess I can do that with my L shape countertop. But, what do I need to do to extend the length over 96" for my longer side?

I know HomeDepot carries countertops that is 10' long. I will go check it out, maybe at Lowe's too.

yup, I've asked this question at the store several times. 96 7/8" is the longest, unless you want to go "custom" at Ikea. I'd see what the other stores have for as few seams as possible, but it's up to you! I have an L leading to a peninsula, so the 96 was good for me. I wish you luck!

Keep in mind that there may be a better place for the seam than right at the end. Look at your layout and see if you can place it in a better location, at the sink or maybe a cooktop cutout area?

We have a similar situation - one countertop length is 102 with a cutout for a cooktop. We are planning on putting a seam about 2" to the left of the cooktop so that the seam actually sits under the "lip" of the cooktop. My husband has bought some special connector made for joining two pieces of wood from a woodworking website, but he's out of town and I can't find it. When he gets back tomorrow I'll let you know what he bought. He said it is made for bringing two pieces together very tightly so that there is virtually no seam.

Could be a biscuit joiner (creates slots in the edges for a wood biscuit shaped like a football to be glued in and that connects the two pieces) or a special screw that goes in underneath the countertop and is then turned to pull the two pieces together. The screw is called a drawing bolt and it fits into specially routed slots on the bottom side of the countertop.
