[Complete] Besta hanging.. I am going to try my solution!

Project: fix my ikea besta suspended solution to the wall in SAFE way.
Problem: In italy, Besta rails are not available.. so Ikea suggest to hang to the wall with the provided plastic pieces. I absolutely don't like this solution.. I think it's not safe like rails.. but what alternative to hang my Besta to the wall?

This is my Besta:

I want to use standard suspension rails (cutted exactly as required to fit the back of besta) and standard hangup hardware like this one.

Obviously the hangup hardware can't be fixed directly, because the first screw hole is exactly above the hardware that connect top and sides of the cabinets .
And next the second hole is probably over honeycomb and not solid "wood" (but I think it's not a problem).

Ok.. back to the first problem.. hanging bracket screw hole above existing hardware. Solution: small blocks of wood 18mm x 18mm x 6cm to be placed beetween the top and the hanging bracket to obtain a perfect alignment of the bracket's hole with Besta pre-drilled hole. In this way, the weight will be transferred correctly to the top and to the side with at least one screw.
Like this but with a smaller pice of wood over the bracket (18mm in height).

What do you think about it? I think this solution is a custom solution.. but A LOT safer than the ikea plastic toys included with the besta.

ok.. first Besta is on the wall now!

Standard rails (really) fixed to the wall: imgur: the simple image sharer
(3 screws each rail, 2 rail for each Besta cabinet.. total 6 screws for each cabinet)

Standard fixing hardware and 18mm x 18mm wood block: imgur: the simple image sharer

And now a full view: imgur: the simple image sharer

What do you think?

This looks good so far. You've done this in the proper order so far - base cabs, then Framsta frames, the wall cabs.

I'm confused as to how the cabinets get secured to the rail - can you explain that?

Make sure to run all your wires before you put the rest of the panels in place - it will make your life much easier.

Nice work!

Re: Besta hanging.. I am going to try my solution!

Thanks!
The hardware you see inside the cabinet (the white piece in the photo), hook the rail through an hole in the back, so simple.

All the wires run under the last suspended cabinet (left and right);
I'll cover the cables with something (actually I'm thinkign about a removable cutted framsta panel with a wood invisible structure, or similar). In this way I can manage all the cable, if needed, without remove cabinets.

I hope you understand.. because my english really need a upgrade

OK, so as I understand, this piece screws into the side of the cabinet, and the silver bit on the left goes out the back of the cabinet and hooks onto the rail? Where did you find this system?

Your English is excellent, and far better than my Italian, which extends no further than a "grazie", "prego" and a few popular food items.

Re: Besta hanging.. I am going to try my solution!

You understand at 100% !

This piece is fixed with two screws inside the cabinet and the metal hook goes out the back to get the rail. so all the weight push on the top, on the back and on the side (by the screws).

Only a trick is needed: if you look the photo inside my besta, you see a little wood block painted in black (18mm x 18mm). This is required to align the holes with the predrilled one on the cabinet side.
Other "trick": a LOT of precision is needed to fix the rails.. rails need to be cutted exactly to the size on the besta back (54,2mm if my mind remember correctly ) and then fixed to the wall at the exact distance.
A little thing that don't like me so much, but not unsafe in my opinion: one screw is aligned on predrilled hole and is fixed into solid material, but the second screw is over the honeycomb, so only fixed on the thin mdf layer (and cant be tighten). But if you think to the IKEA standard fixings (excluding USA rails method).. I suppose my method is much safer

This type of hooking hardware is common in Italy (and honestly I don't know if there's a specific name ) and is used mainly to hook kitchen cabinets.
There are many other type of hooking hardware (much better than this one) but the costs is higher and other materials is needed (see this, for instance: LIBRA H1, H2, H3 cabinet hangers - Italiana Ferramenta - YouTube )

Re: Besta hanging.. I am going to try my solution!

Some days ago.. my living room solution was born!

What do you think?

As you can see.. no more full suspended besta cabinets. But partially suspended, because I love the safety

All the top cabinets were installed with standard rails and joined each other. The two cabinet on the left and on the righ are pushed to the wall and fixed to the wall with the standard white plastic ikea fixings, so the weight fall partially on the base and partially on the fixings.. but nothing can fall on the ground in case of fixings failure.

The cables ? simple! The cables run out from the framsta on the left and on the right.
"But there are the cabinets on the framsta sides!" .. yes is true.. but i used a plastic cable guide to make order on the cables jungle and then I cutted a little space on the back of the besta sides, so the cabinets is fixed to the wall and cables are out!
Additionally I used standard wall plates insted of running cables out of the framsta.. tomorrow I'll upload some photos

Re: Besta hanging.. I am going to try my solution!

Thank you Chuck!

Finally the whole structure looks a lot better than I expected

- Here you can see the framsta behind the TV. Standard wall plugs for Lan, Tv, Sat, 220v, 220v with switch, audio cables.

- Here the framsta side, with the "hack" to run out the cables:

And finally.. here you can see the hack on the besta side (the last cabinet on the column) with the plastic guide that cointain the cables.
