Post Have you hit the 80/20 ceiling?

You know, that point where 80% of the work is done and it will take another 80% of the elapsed time to complete the rest?

We FINALLY made the final installation modification, to raise the stove to be slightly above the countertop. Installed as the specs indicated left the flame level exactly at the level of the countertop, which was a problem when I used one of my biggest pots on the large superburner and found the flame licking out way too close to my wooden cutting board! So we had to remove a cabinet, get stone pavers to set the range on, raise up the range, replace the cabinet and relevel and then recaulk everything. And then there was the little toekick fiasco (thanks DeDe once again for coming to the rescue), caulking around the appliance garage, etc. etc.

I still have to grout my backsplash and decide whether I am going to poly only or stain and poly the appliance garage. We decided that we had to call it done, though, because otherwise we would never be able to say it!

How about you?

I don't know what percentage I'm at, but all my cabs are in (kitchen at least...bathrooms are later), my doors are on. My counter is on, my dome ceiling and recessed lights are in. I still have top molding, toekicks, the back peninsula cover panel, finish the "modifications" to my island range hood and my backsplash to do. On a bright note, I do have running water in the kitchen (yay!).

You're at the point when you can say "Done". You're my hero! We'll see what my schedule and my "helpers" schedules say about when I can put pictures in the "finished" section!

I'd have to guess that I'm on the floor. Rather than the ceiling, that is.

Is there a 95/5 point? I thought I would have the only 2-week kitchen remodel in modern history, but then there was the delay for the blind corner unit and faucet to ship, and then my brother got diverted to a more lucrative job while we went on vacation. Then I started thinking too much about the backsplash. You folks encouraged a backsplash more worthy of the rest of the kitchen, so then I had to think about that and order the glass tile and then reconsider where the outlets and switches are relative to the backsplash. As long as the backsplash is opened up, we decided to get a real electrician in to look at stuff, and now he has to come back and upgrade the outlets. And heck, as long as my brother is tiling, might as well re-tile the entryway where all the existing tiles are cracking. Oh, too bad, the previous owners must have had idiots install the subfloor, so that's all got to be re-done. Will it ever end? Actually, I think we might finish by the end of the week, but it is astounding how things stretch out!
