I spoke to Bonnie yesterday at the Kitchen Couple. She explained the process.
I saw a friend's small simple kitchen they installed and it went smoothly. My process is much more complicated as the building is 100 years old.
They recommended a Gen. Contractor as well, Tasos who is coming by on Monday.
I am still undecided about them. Will wait to talk to Basic Builders as well.
Let's compare notes as we go.
Best,
Jeff, upper west
Hi! Did you end up using The Kitchen Couple? What did you think?
Hi
Peter from Basic Builders came for a design consultation last night. He was planning to be there from 6-8, but ended up answering questions and laying out a first draft right on the spot. Stayed til 10.
He was VERY experienced and helpful and I am expecting a quote in a few days. I have no need to call Kitchen Couple at this point, since prices are controlled by Ikea and I liked both Peter and his wife.
I interviewed a non-certified, but experienced IKEA contractor last week, who quoted me reasonable price as well. I liked him very much and had low cost solutions for some areas. Will share name if you like.
Once I decide on door style, I will move on to next steps. The door style issue is holding me from moving on just now. I need a color guru to work with me.

I actually used Chuck Shapiro instead. He's an installer listed here in the IKEAFANS directory and could not have been happier with my selection. HIs excellent job exceeded my expectations.

Glad things are going well with your project Jeff. I'd love to see what will be done with your space.

What door styles are you considering?
I like avsikt for the wall cabs, but I need some help for the base. Not sure whether to go dark, light, red or white. I need color advice. Looking around for this. Jeff
I will check out the link for Chuck Shapiro, look at Basic Builders and would love the name/info of the other contractor that was being considered. Thanks (also thanks for the well wishes on our new arrival...3 weeks to go)!

I liked this guy a lot. British and respectable, his estimate was surprisingly inexpensive and offered 10% discount for cash.
Simon Parson 646 251-8014. I had Basic Builders over to design last night, ($250 design fee and worth it)
and will wait for their estimate but they do not paint, plaster.... But are VERY experienced at Ikea.
I may use thier design and have a non-certified Ikea installer like Simon do the install.
He lives at 240 E 30. So he's not commuting to outer boroughs.
