Hmmm...regarding the dishwasher opening: I think we just left the standard 24", but I could be wrong.
On this thread, it looks like we have about1/2" on the right, but we covered it with some trim.... Just to be sure, measure your actual dishwasher or check the spec sheet (most are available online). Worst case scenario: there will be some flanges on the sides that you'll be able to screw into your adjacent cabinets/panels to cover any gaps. If you're afraid of getting it wrong, leave an additional 1/4" on either side to allow for any inconsistencies.
For your furdown (this is the same as a soffit?): I think the measurement is 2 1/2". Find the LOWEST spot on your furdown, and measure 2 1/2" down from there. You should be safe to hang the cabinets at that level, then you'll fill any gap withcaulk, just make sure it's flexible. To be on the safe side, you could mount them down about 4-5 inches and cover any gaps with trim...either a decorative crown moulding, or just a "library moulding", which is basically a fancy name for a flat peice of wood.
What's your flavor, btw?
