Malm rail depth - 12" memory foam mattress?

I'll be putting together my MALM bedframe tomorrow and noticed the choice on the side rail/support depth & the notes on this forum related to it. I'll be using the slats with a 12" memory foam mattress. Should I use the upper or lower set of holes?

Does anyone have a similar situation?

For that thickness, use the lower holes.

Re: Malm rail depth - 12" memory foam mattress?

The lower holes may give you a more ideal height for the mattress, but they create an issue with trying to change the linens and make the bed because of the added depth. The difference is only an inch or two, but with a heavy mattress, it's enough to consider the higher setting. I generally use the lower holes only for my customers who have a box spring.

Re: Malm rail depth - 12" memory foam mattress?

Thanks ... good suggestions. I also have the MALM occasional table so I'll see how that fits with the lower set of holes - as I do like the looks of the lower mattress better.

Thought I'd get it all done today but just go the headboard, the occasional table and part of the bed done. Surprised at how easy it is to put together and how clear the IKEA instructions are to follow.

Follow up - used the lower holes for the mattress and it is just perfect!

Assembly was ok - needed help only to get the head/foot boards attached to the side boards. Other than that it was easy by myself. I did however draw blood when attaching the cross metal pieces to the hamar midbeam

Sharp edge or screwdriver into the fingertip?

How did you like the little "cartoon" on the mid-beam warning you of sharp edges? That's one of those IKEA-isms that cracks me up. Sick humor, I guess.
