I got a call late last night from my exhausted sister. Her and her hubby had been all evening trying to install the last cupboard in the Abstrakt Red kitchen. She says she knows now why they say to install the corners first.
They had started a wall of cabinets on the free end first because they didn't think they could afford the last couple cabinets - above the stacking washer/dryer and a 30" broom closet. B ut it turned out that they went ahead, but not before the rest was in. On top of that, there is the issue of the dryer venting behind the broom closet.
Well, they built out for the ducting and heave-ho-ed the giant cabinet into place where there was no room to manouevre. But unknown to them, it got caught on the built up area, not the ledger board - then crashed down and inch or so into place.
But an inch was all it took. All the fastners and dowels that hold the sides onto the bottom all came bursting out of their locations. A complete mess.
So they took it out again he tried to put it back together with L brackets and put it back again. But it doesn't sit back far enough - it is getting caught up on the venting!
Now tonight, they are taking the cabinet out again to change the venting to low profile venting so the whole thing will bit better. What an ordeal! I hope the broom likes its new home!
OK, this is the sister. You laugh, but it has taken 3 days to install the last cupboard in the kitchen!! So FRUSTRATING!! I went to get the low profile venting at close to closing from Home Depot, but our local one was out.
The next morning, I went to the next city to pick it up. Waiting all day for hubby to get home from work and for us to start again. I now have a love-hate relationship with this cupboard. Love the fact that I have a place for the broom, vacuum, mop, bucket etc....Hate - that is has delayed getting the finishing touches up.
