Re: Fess Up!! Lessons Learned During Installation

1. If you're putting in new floors or drywall, if at all possible, wait until both are in before paying for cabinets. We somehow gained an inch here, an inch there, and it threw off a few components of our order, meaning I had to make an extra trip to the store.

If you're having someone else do a kitchen cabinet install, think carefully about where cover panels will go and how many you will need.

For instance, there are no "tall" 12" deep upper cab panels -- they need to be ripped from the 80" deep base cab panels. Our installers made a lot of extra work for themselves b/c they mitered the trim molding around corners when they could have just used longer cover panels and butted the trim molding. Unfortunately I wasn't around to stop them.

Oh no! I just learned not to turn your high oven cabinet over the wrong way. Always flip it so the front faces up, then rotate it 90degrees forward to it is standing up straight. Standing it up on the corner loosens all the joints.

Re: Fess Up!! Lessons Learned During Installation

1) I placed the range outlet at the same height as a standard outlet- at 15". When our new range came, the outlet/plug was blocking the range from sliding all the way in. So i had to rip it out and reset, re-drywall and mud . Put the outlet right above the pressure treated bottom plate and you'll be good.

2) After granite was installed, we went to oil our new cutting boards. Left the mineral oil on the granite. Big mistake. It stained on day 1 . Luckily it was sealed. Acetone helped get the stain out a little. After a month, the oil has been fully dissappeared. Phew!

3) We installed the bamboo flooring after the cabinets, before the appliances. Trying to make our glue cover the whole area, I didn't flooring very far in the dishwasher floor area. Luckily I realized this before the granite came and added more flooring, otherwise my DW would be stuck in place.

4) We had a couple of moments that we were stumped with the assembly or installation. Came to this website and found the solution!
