1. If you're putting in new floors or drywall, if at all possible, wait until both are in before paying for cabinets. We somehow gained an inch here, an inch there, and it threw off a few components of our order, meaning I had to make an extra trip to the store.
If you're having someone else do a kitchen cabinet install, think carefully about where cover panels will go and how many you will need.
For instance, there are no "tall" 12" deep upper cab panels -- they need to be ripped from the 80" deep base cab panels. Our installers made a lot of extra work for themselves b/c they mitered the trim molding around corners when they could have just used longer cover panels and butted the trim molding. Unfortunately I wasn't around to stop them.
