The Installation video says that base cabinets (stand alone base cabinets, ours is a 30" that sits between the fridge & the range) can be installed with 2 legs in front and a "support board" fastened to the rear wall OR with just 4 legs.
i like doing 2 but i use a 2x4 in the back that is supremely secured to the wall... i like this method because once you have that back support level and attached the guess work is done and the front is all about getting those legs twisted to proper height and level...
that's my personal preference, haven't done it too many times since often it seems like a hassle to do all that prep work... always wind up wishing i would have done it though
So you have done both 2 and 4 before? On an end cabinet with a front & side exposed, how did you do the support board? (Did you essentially install the 3rd leg & the support board?)
How "secure" is the base cabinet if you use 4 legs? It would only be screwed into the wall in the 2 brackets (and chances the they just happen to line up with a stud are next to zero!)
it's secure, but i also like running a 6" strip of plywood behind the top area of the cabinet (i cut out the drywall so that it doesn't add depth) so that i'm securing the cabinet to that rather than fiddling with anchors and such... but that was borne from a paranoid "client" (my mom) since we live near a fault line in northern cali (but i now love the method so much that i just do it all the time)
so 4 legs is really secure, i just find it a pain to have to lay on the floor in order to level out the back legs, i don't have the longest arms in the world... and to answer the toe kick question, yes that would be a good idea (the 3rd leg used simply for the plinth clip attachment) haven't run into that yet, but that would be the "right" solution imo
Thanks! Good idea on the 2X4 .... I might look into doing something similar. I'm not in a fault line, but it would still feel more secure if it gets bumped, etc.
