Ikea gas cooktop over ikea oven....why won't it fit!?!?!
Hi,
I (perhaps naively) assumed that since there are multiple pictures in the Ikea kitchen catalog of 30" gas Eldig cooktops over Mumsig ovens, that this would not be a complicated thing to install. Now that I have the oven and cooktop, I cannot figure out how they will fit together once you put the regulator and flexible gas line on the bottom of the cooktop....there is simply not enough space. (my countertop is 1 5/8"). Both the cooktop and the oven included an extra little flyer along with the installation guide that shows the needed dimension to do this installation (and I have met all the required dimension), however, it looks like they did not calculate in the room needed to attach the flexible pipe to the regulator ( and the adapter and nipple needed to do this). Am I missing something? I found the message below by Brett from May which no one responded to, and he was basically in the same situation. He mentions perhaps putting an elbow on the pipe under the cooktop and running the regulator into the next cabinet. Is this really the answer!?!?!?
I understood that this cooktop/oven combination might be complicated if you were using other brands of appliances that were different sizes. Because of this I went with the Ikea appliances. I'll be extremely disappointed if this isn't a straightforward installation when they promote this combination so often in their brochures.
Thanks,
Sharon
I am installing an 30 inch Ikea gas cooktop over an Ikea Convection Oven in a 30 inch cabinet with 2cm granite countertop. I am sure many of you have done this as well.
It is a tight fit and with the gas regulator on the bottom of the cooktop, it does not fit at all. Seems I will need another 3-4 inches under the cooktop. I guess I can put an elbow on the pipe under the cooktop and place the regulator in the next cabinet.
Whirlpool states that only four inches is needed under the cooktop. With granite countertops and the oven sitting on the bottom of the cabinet, I have only three, however it looks as if only three is needed. But the regulator will definitely not fit. It will need at least seven inches.
If anyone else has installed this combo, please let me know how you solved the problem. Thanks
Re: Ikea gas cooktop over ikea oven....why won't it fit!?!?!
Hello,
I am trying to do the same thing with our Ikea gas cooktop and Ikea oven.
I also saw the photos in the catalog and even the set up in the store showing the gas cooktop over the oven. I don't have the answer , yet, but I am getting a bad feeling about this. I was an advertising photographer and I can tell you that
most of the time, the people producing the photos for the catalogs don't really have an idea how the products work or how they should be installed. The photo crew will get a layout from the art dept showing the layout of the page with a list of products to be in the shot. The list of products is usually approved by the buyer of that dept. That doesn't mean that the buyer knows anything about installation, and since the photo crew is just setting up for the photo, no appliances are actually installed, just placed where the Art Director or stylist likes them.
I saw Brett's post and the fact that it has not been answered is leading me to speculate that the gas cooktop cannot be installed over the oven. The moderators of this forum are usually quick to respond , perhaps no one wants to tell someone that it cannot be done, especially if that person has already cut their expensive countertop for the cooktop.
When I ordered my kitchen, I explained what I wanted to do to the Ikea salesperson and got an OK as a response.
We need an installer or someone with knowledge of gas cooktops installation to tell us if the pressure regulator can be mounted onto an elbow.
Re: Ikea gas cooktop over ikea oven....why won't it fit!?!?!
Hi Markshimo,
Well, I'm happy to report that I did finally successfully get the cooktop and oven installed. My plumber did end up having to put an elbow on the pipe, which he said was not a big deal. He just had it point back (towards the wall), so we didn't even have to worry about putting it in an adjacement cabinet.

Hello, I just purchased the ELDIG gas 30" too, I was looking for the model#, but my model # is printed over top of the words "whirlpool corporation" underneath... Is there anybody that knows the model # of this cooktop?
Re: Ikea gas cooktop over ikea oven....why won't it fit!?!?!
Hello everyone,
I bought two kitchens from Ikea, so far everything was OK up until 30" Cooktop + Mumsig oven installation. Mumsig was hooked up fine but the cooktop does not fit because of the regulator.
We visited the Ikea store, and the helpful employee at customer service dept. was able to help us. He printed a memo that he got, which stated that Electric Ovens are not compatible with Gas Cooktops because of the gas regulator. He also brought a picture where it showed elbow pipe insalled on the end of the regulator.
I don't know how this helped you guys, but the regulator itself is already a tight fit, how did you fit the elbow at the end of that pipe? I guess you got some extra space once the cooktop was lifted by the countertop?

Hi hydipin- are you using an electrician/gas plumber to install these pieces or are you going it alone? If you are considering DIY, I would at least consult with a gas plumber on how to execute the connections and framing. And, being a coward when it comes to explosive poisonous gases, I always advise people to just let the professionals handle it. It cost us a few hundred dollars, but we did not have a gas pipe that went to the cooktop location.
Sorry not to be able to advise you specifically on what to do.
