Proper screws for cover panel installation

I'm installing red abstrakt cover panels...I see in some posts that people got screws with their panels, but my panels came with no screws, or instructions, for that matter. So, can I use 11/4" coarse thread sheetrock screws, or do I need11/4" panhead wood screws, or is 1 1/8 "safer, and should I screw through the holes for the drawer glides or through the entire wall thickness (to mitigate against the screwpulling through and piercing the outside finish)?

Also, curious why the larger panels come with the anodized metal edge and the others have a red edge.

Thanks

Re: Proper screws for cover panel installation

Hi,

I think the panels did come with screws, but they are kind of hidden in the cardboard of the box...I got lucky and was able to get a lot of my cover panels in As-Is I used particle board screws, so they didn't come with screws. You just want to make sure that they are long enough to bite into the cover panel, but not too long to pierce through to the outside. Where you screw them in is up to you and what look you want to go for, if you have a countersink bit hen you can drill those holes and make the screws less obvious. Screwing into the existing holes doesn't necessarily do that as they are countersunk, so the screw heads would still be visible...on the upside the holes are mostly drilled already there at those locations.

I did Abstrakt white, but the edges were all the same on those panels.

Re: Proper screws for cover panel installation

Better yet if you are attaching a cover panel on a side with door hinges, you can locate the attachment screws that will be at the front edge of the cabinet in front of the line of pre-drilled holes at the hinge locations. When you snap the hinge on, you will never see the screw. You can't conceal the screws at the rear of the cabinet as easily, but they'll most likely be obscured by the stuff in your cabinet.

Hope that makes sense.....i can post a photo if it doesn't.

Also, there was a thread re: screw sizes a few days ago. I believe Chuck (?), a cabinet installer, answered this in depth.

Re: Proper screws for cover panel installation

Drywall screws work fine - for the Abstrakt panels, 1 1/4" is just right. I use the hinge plates and mounting brackets to hide 3 of my screws; the fourth one (usually in the bottom corner) gets buried behind whatever stuff you put in the cabinet. With the white cabinets (I assume, considering the red finishes), you can also use "White Out" to further hide the screws.
