drawers rubbing against wall

I have quite a tight fit going on. I have a galley kitchen and the side which contains my stove measured exactly 90" and that is exactly what I put there. Two 30" four-drawer cabinets (30") are flanking my 30" slide in range, which brings the grand total measurement to exactly 30". Everything fits fine - snug as a bug - but it fits. The problem I am having is the last 2 drawers of the 30" cab to the left of the stove, but most especially the last drawer, rubs against the wall. It isn't scratching the cab as far as I can tell. However, because of this, the drawers do not shut by themselves nor do they soft close. In fact, it takes an extra bit of strength (not a lot) just to make sure that they open & close all together. And it is impossible to wriggle the cab about because there is no room to do so. Are there any solutions to this problem or do I just live with it? Can I plane down the wall? Will this harm my cabs over time? Any solutions?

Thanks.

Re: drawers rubbing against wall

You might be able to adjust the drawer fronts left to right. Beyond that, you could try sanding your wall down or cutting down the drawer front.

Re: drawers rubbing against wall

It sound like the wall is not exactly plumb and is slighltly bowing out on the bottom. The other issue maybe a build-up of joint compound on the wall near the bottom. This is not uncommon.

If you have the right tools (table saw and maybe a router), I would try trimming the drawer about 1/16" or less. Which door style is it?

If the wall is bowed and drywall, then you really can't sand it. You will ruin the paper and never get a smooth finish back.

I have adel mb. The wall is drywalled and spackled on top of that because after removing some rather funky flowered wall paper it left the walls in horrible condition.

Re: drawers rubbing against wall

You could try gently sanding with 120-150 grit in the area that is rubbing. If you get to paper, stop sanding.

Adel MB is pretty easy to match if you decide to cut it. It is solid wood around the center panel.
