We bought white Carrara subway tiles for the backsplash...
My tile man came yesterday and I showed him what I wanted.
Which was very simple just the backsplash...
Then he asked mewhat I would do with the chimney.
I said nothing...
He thinks it looks better if I go the same height on the chimney in the corner...
Then I was wondering if I should do the whole chimney (corner)...
I would love some advice.
Thanks,
Ingrid
I agree that you should at least do the same height on the chimney.
Doing the whole chimney is intriguing (and would look fabulous) but that certainly adds to your materials & labor costs, no? Otherwise, would you paint it the same wall color as the rest of your kitchen?
Is it possible to just do the same height as your backsplash for now? Can you leave it for a day or two to see if you want to tile the whole surface?
I wouldn't do the chimney necessarily. I think it would look fine just painted (it is painted, isn't it?), especially since it's white. I think it really depends on your funds, but I don't think you need to tile the chimney if you hadn't planned on it. I'm a little concerned that just going backsplash-height on the chimney would end up looking unfinished above that level.
Thanks both for your reply.
Yes I can see your point Erika...and yes I can just get more tile and do the whole chimney...
Because I'm worried that if I go only up to the same height as the backsplash it will look as if I didn't have enough tile to finish the whole chimney.
No problem getting more tile...
And Greenie I am still thinking to leave it and only do the backsplash...
The walls/chimney are silver cloud (Benjamin Moore)...FIRST time EVER I have bluish in my house.
But since I live in an old house and my kitchen and bathroom are the build on part (and the only part with plumbing) I thought the silver cloud will look clean! After the kitchen is done it is on to the bathroom. I'm thinking of getting kitchen cabs for the bathroom.I didn't like the Ikea bathroom cabs that much.
Thanks so much..I really feel so much better getting feedback.

I think if you search you'll find out a lot of us used kitchen cabs for a bathroom vanity (I did, see my gallery pictures). One thing to consider -- the kitchen cabs are deeper -- 24" -- as opposed to typical bathroom cabs, so when your cabinet person is templating for the sink, you might want to keep it closer to the edge you lean against than might look good. My countertop person set it a little further away, and i have to lean all the time... it's a little thing, but something I would redo.
Good luck! Can't wait to see what you choose to do with the backsplash! Our kitchen has been "finished" for a few months, but we're still debating backsplash.
Yes Greenie I had seen your bathroom cabs...they look fantastic! Love them...
Too bad I don't have that much room...plus I need drawer space.
I'm thinking 24" sink cab with 15" drawer unit on each side.
We were at Home Depot tonight (we have one 1 hr. away) and checked out some of their bathroom cabs!! Terrible!
My
DH
said once you have Ikea kitchen cabs you have a hard time getting something else.
So we'll go for probably the same as yours...love them ...Adel medium brown???Is that what you have in the bathroom.
I hope tomorrow I can give some idea of my bathroom (might need help with that!!!
LOVE your kitchen also....what countertop do you have??? Looks like soapstone..

DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
Bathroom countertop is Shetkastone, kitchen countertop is Caesarstone. And yep, the bathroom cabs are Adel Medium Brown. The middle cab in the bathroom is a pull-out with 4 internal drawers -- love it!
I almost picked Ceasarstone!!!!
But I ended up with the butcherblock (not my first choice!!!!!!!!! but my
DH
loves it)
Oh well in my next live.
We were at the stone company and outside they had skids all with Ceasarstone!!!!!!!!! beatiful..I had picked "nougat"...
Yes I think I'm going for the Adel MB in my bathroom...
What handles did you get? they look great.
I'm going to make planner and then I'll ask some advice.
Thanks again!

Ingrid--If you decide to tile your chimney to backsplash height, you can finish the edge with special tile designed for edges. Bullnose edging, special "chair rail" type tiles, etc. will give your project a finished edge. This type of finish is good for tile that doesn't go all the way to the cabinet. It makes your choice look purposeful and "done."
I'm still making up my mind...but I think I might only go with the backsplash...
Since my chinmey is crooked as can be I think it is better left alone.
The tileman said it would look ok, but he doesn't have to live with it after.
He will be coming in 10 days...
The rest is starting to look good.
Still painting trim and doors (3) and the wainscotting..one coat on, one to go.
So, I better go paint!!
