Discuss I Want That! backsplash material on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. I Want That! backsplash material - Choosing a backsplash is like taking a ride in a Dr. Seuss-like Backsplooziesplat! All who enter here are sure to leave with more ideas than thought possible..
Did anyone else see HGTV's I Want That! on Wednesday? They featured a resin product that I think would be awesome for a backsplash (now that DH has nixed my idea of no backsplash).
For those of you who didn't see it, or those of you who did, but didn't jump on the HGTV website right away to find it, check it out. http://www.3-form.com
I am hesitating emailing the local rep because I'm so sure it's out-of-this world expensive.

I have some 3form samples. I know I didn't pay for them, so these must be leftovers. They are about 3x3. One is called Box3 and the other says Varia Collection Textura: Vertu V Mini (looks like corrugated plastic). Both are clear.
I had totally forgotten about this stuff (postmark on the envelope is over a year ago). It seems really tough and indestructable. These two samples have a lot of texture on them, so I don't know if I'd use them for a backsplash. Maybe you are supposed to put them with the texture to the inside.
I'm looking at the brochure that came with the samples and there is some really cool stuff. Unfortunately no pricing info.
If it's a resin vs a glass tile, didn't there used to be kids' paperweight kits where you put bits and pieces on the base and then topped up with a clear resin?
You could maybe use the same kit, make a form the size and shape of the tile you want, and get creative!
I wrote about this stuff in another thread over in fittings but saw this and thought I'd respond. Check out the "reclaim" area on the 3-form website for good deals on fairly large size scrap pieces of this material. http://www.3-form.com/materials-reclaim.php
Last year they had a promotional "sale" on their reclaim material - they were giving it away and you only had to pay for the shipping. Iwas able topick up some pieces that I plan to use in my new home. We've asked our builder to frame the pieces in between the studs at the top of some of the interior walls.I'm hoping it will look a little like stained glass when light shines onit. We are also planning to use a tall skinnypiece inset into a solid swinging door - like a window of sorts. The material comes in various thicknesses and would be great for a backsplash but I don't think it is thick enough for use as a countertop. We are using the plastic/resin but they also make glass products (which are quite a bit more expensive).
I've been seriously considering 3-form and got some preliminary info from their rep which, of course, I can't find now. Someone over on THS did a 3-form backsplash and it was GORGEOUS. Hmm, now who was it.....oh yes that's right. Manicotti's kitchen.
