That onyx is beautiful...

I wonder if I could find something similar locally to see what it looks like in place... will Maestro Mosaics send one sheet?

Sure they will -- I don't think they have a minimum. I ordered six sheets from them, and it wasn't a problem, although I think there was a minimum on shipping. The gal I talked to was super helpful, but it's been over a year, so I can't make any promises as to the service level now.

Jen, I think you're right. What springs to mind is THS member uxorial's beautiful backsplash:

Is that along the lines of what you were thinking? I'm thinking of something like the mix above, but incorporating some greens, and maybe some coppery colors, if they don't clash with your yellows. Eh?

If not, I can come up with others! I haven't had a good backsplooziesplat in a while...

Here's uxorial's backsplash - I swiped it for my own ideas file because I love it!

Stacy, your pic is nicer than the one I could pull up, thanks for posting it!

I LOVE that basketweave, the second one especially. The green would pick up the granite nicely. The pattern has an interesting vibe to it. I've noticed that pattern in a lot of old -pre WWII buildings around Boston and Cambridge in tile floors. It's kind of Art Deco, which also can look modern or contemporary, but without being too edgy, if you know what I mean.

Maestro Mosaics has a few patterns that are similar, and they have a sale page. Here is one of my all time favorites (although goodness knows what the price is!):

They also have these:

Square 5/8: Kiwi Marble (Polished)

$8.95

Small Basketweave: Honey Onyx & Black (Tumbled)

$11.95

Small Basketweave: CremarMarfil & Emperador Dark (Polished)

$14.95

And a LOT more with no prices.

See? It's FUN to backspooziesplat!

Ooh.. thanks to everyone for the suggestions and the info about the "sale" page... woo hoo... we don't have a ton of backsplash (though more than originally expected since we decided not to do stainless behind hte range... )

I still have not chosen a backsplash-- I"ve looked at another store and I want to get DH to come with me to Heath Ceramics (about 30 minutes from us)...

http://www.heathceramics.com/factory_store.php

We also still need to get a hood extension and a few other little things--

OOOH! I just found this page! That red onyx in subway tile IS KILLING ME. I can see that I will have to have some discipline in choosing countertop, flooring and backsploooziesplat or it will look like one feels when trying to go to bed with a bit too much of the hootch in ya.

Only one crazy beautiful veined stone, Kelly, only the ONE.
