Tell Me the Truth - What Do You Think Of This BackSplash Plan?
Well I feel like I may have gone over the top BUT I do really like my backsplash selection. My husband thinks it doesn't match but....to me they are all white, just different materials and textures so I think I can get away with it. We are doing white subway tile with a white glass band around the counters and that white glass will "frame" some white mother of pearl above the stove. Tell me the truth - what do you think? I've attached some pictures.
The green tape in the pictures represents our white glass band and the white glass frame for the mother of pearl. The subway will go all the way up to the bulk head by the window as the cabinets on either side of the window are going, as is the cabinet above the stove. The subway will also go all the way up to the bulkhead above the stove.
We are doing Adel white cabinets, butcher block counters, white walls, white porcelin farm sink (Domjso), stainless hardware and not changing the appliances for now (though will to pure stainless down the road).
Re: Tell Me the Truth - What Do You Think Of This BackSplash Plan?
What type of floor are you having?
My concern is that the white subway and glass are the primary pieces and that those are a lot cooler than the counter. Using more of the mother of pearl might help.

Hi Abandon - our floors are currently dark wood laminate that runs throughout the entire upper floor of our house. I would eventually like to change to a light wood, but that will be quite down the road. The mother of pearl was VERY expensive. I spent $50 on just two sheets as a splurge for over the stove
Re: Tell Me the Truth - What Do You Think Of This BackSplash Plan?
I think I'd rather see only two of the three together. With three you start comparing too much and they are so similar they need to be either more similar or less--the current difference is just enough to be jarring to my eye. If the mother of pearl is your favorite, and the subway obviously has to cover the main square footage, but you really want an accent elsewhere, how about a much warmer amber/brownish glass to pick up on the warm tones of counter and mother of pearl?
Re: Tell Me the Truth - What Do You Think Of This BackSplash Plan?
Truth? I hate it. I'm sorry.
Nice truth? They are all really pretty in their own way, but I think they fight rather than elevate. The Adel White would look good with any of them. White subway is classic and would anchor the kitchen. The mini glass would make it more "today". The mother of pearl would be a show stopper and a real eye catcher. But together? They're a hot mess. In my humble opinion. But, I can't see your kitchen from my house, so you get to choose. If you love it, that's all that really matters.
My advice, in these situations, is to take a step back and a deep breath. Then question yourself if this might be an episode of "
TKO
" (totally kitchen obsessed) where every little component takes on such great weight that certain things get overblown. Backsplashes are a pretty normal pitfall for the tko, if that helps
TKO definition
TKO stands for Totally Kitchen Obsessed - a highly contagious and expensive condition.

Hot mess!! I was afraid of that-
lol
! I agree I might have "looked at too much tile-itis" as you suggest. I might just move the mother of pearl to our tiny bathroom where it can shine all on its own and leave the subway with the pretty splash of glass.
Any suggestions on how to feature the glass over the stove top? A rectangle? A strip, two strips?
Re: Tell Me the Truth - What Do You Think Of This BackSplash Plan?
If you floors are dark, I would agree that you might want to consider a different glass. I'm sure the current glass looks nice with the stainless, but the dark floor with medium countertop and everything else white wouldn't work for me.
If it were my kitchen, I would either stain the counter to match the floor, which you may not want to do. Or, use a brown or chocolate glass tile, or both, to tie the floor and counter together.
