I'm wondering what the pitfalls are of just nailing up some ceiling tin tiles - I love the look but will it rust? Could I treat it with something? Anyone do this and have any advice?
I have them, and I love them. Mine are copper, and I got them from American Tin Ceiling Company: Tin Ceiling Panels and Products. The ones I have have a finish on them, so they don't oxidize. We used liquid nails plus little copper finish nails to put ours up. They've been up for over a year, and still look great.

I just joined but have you considered flashing? This is what we went with - comes in 12" or 18" widths in a roll. I nailed it on and then used 1" wide steel metal bars (used mainly for mirror edges - found with carpet edgers etc at Home Depot) for finishing the edges off. Very cheap and it looks and feels the exact same as out stainless steel appliances
I'm thinking about doing this as well. There's an architectural salvage store here in Philly that sells old panels of tin ceiling that I was thinking I'd just attach to the wall somehow. I'll let you know how it goes when I get to that stage. Might be a few weeks though.
Older tin ceilings were really drop ceilings, and needed something to attach to- I think that they were formed for furring strips, so they might not lie flat without them. I could be quite truly wrong that they won't lie flat on a wall, but just want you to be thinking about possible installation complexity with vintage. I love vintage but sometimes you have to work with it...
