After changing our minds about cabinets and countertops and tile, I think we've finally made some choices. (We thought we would go with Adel white until I discovered that it was not all that white, but more of an off white or cream.)
So, we're planning to do Applad white cabinets with Lansa handles. The countertop will be Caesarstone, cement color, with stainless appliances. We're leaning toward a dark gray/black Marmoleum floor. (Anyone have any experience with Marmoleum? I've heard it scratches like mad.)
Now we just have to choose a backsplash - which seems impossible. I've attached pics of the tile we're looking at.
Any and all thoughts are appreciated. It's great to have a forum to share - the husband just doesn't get as excited as I do.
Hi there! The tiles you picked are all really pretty. May I ask where you found them?
I'm leaning towards lime twist because it's bright, and I think it will help liven things up a bit. I also like the art deco mix. Cape cod is a bit too quiet, I think.
What kind of look are you going for? Would you like something bright, or calming, or something else? Do you have other colors you are working with in the house, or a paint color picked out?
Good luck, keep telling us details! We love details :-)
Thanks for the reply. We're big fans of the modern retro look, and our house is filled with vintage furniture from the 50s. I also like mod design - marimekko prints, etc. So, we'd like the kitchen to look modern, but not too modern (i.e. super sleek). I think that's why we're looking at the tiles with the sour apple green color. I got sample tiles from mosaictilesupplies.com. Their prices are fabulous, and their customer service was top notch.
I haven't really thought about paint yet as we'll have so little wall in our kitchen after the cabinets are installed. It's tee-niny. But I'll need to sooner or later. We'll likely change the colors in our dining and living room, so I'm trying not to base my decision on them.
There are just way to many choices when planning a kitchen!
I know exactly what you mean! There always seem to be too many choices, but things will "speak" to you as you find them. I've been in perpetual planning mode for ages now, but things are starting to gel and it's gratifying. You will find lots of help on here.
Mosaictilesupplies.com does have a great rep. Have you looked at glass tiles at all? Susan Jablon Mosaics and Hatakai both have lovely glass mosaics, and they let you make up custom blends. I think you would be fine with the choices you have, but if you are still searching, those might be good places to look.
I'm waiting on paint, also. It's the easiest thing to change if it doesn't work, huh? The whole house could take off from the kitchen!
I like the Art Deco. I think it's compelling without being overly bright.
We have a midcentury look too, and I did glass pebbles as a backsplash in clear with blue and pale green here and there. A couple other options, besides the small mosaic, would be linear pencil tiles or vertical stacked.
Thank you so much for posting that site! My hubby and I are also working through variations on a mosaic tile backsplash idea, but that really helps give us a good idea of what's available (although...there is a TON to choose from which makes decision-making hard).
Where did you find those beautiful stacked row and column longer tiles? Was there a web site? We were also considering subway tiles or more elongated tiles like you posted. They would also be beautiful choices.
